Hi I am a college senior accepted to both Purdue and Texas A&M for engineering. What college would you go to and why?

They are both excellent engineering schools, but TAMU is in Texas. 'Nuff said.

Texas A&M all the way! For the people, for the tradition, for the networking, for the fun and everything in between =)

if money is an issue i'd go with the school offering me a better financial aid package...

if you're from texas then choose TAMU, unless you want to experience the college life differently...

My son goes to Purdue in the Engineering program and loves it. It is a college town just like A&M, but they do have long, cold winters. Cant go wrong with either one. When you say Purdue, most people think it is a private ivy league school. Did you know Neil Armstrong graduated from Purdue? Also the pilot that landed the plane in the Hudson graduated from Purdue. Boiler Up!!!

I am currently a freshman at Purdue trying to transfer to A&M. Purdue isn’t bad, but there is nothing to do up here. The movie theatre is about a 2 mile walk away from the dorms…unless your real avid on greek life…Life is relaly boring. This year it was too cold to do anything outside for about 6-7 months. The engineering program itself is alright, it is highly ranked but there dfeinitely is a lot of BS in first year engineering. I made it through just fine with a 3.3gpa and probably going to endup with a 3.5 by the end of the semester. Most upperclassmen I talk to dont feel like they learn anything useful until Senior year if ever. But of course some also really enjoy it. In my erpsonal experience, my engineering adviser told me the school doesn’t really care about what you learn, that it really just relies on the prestige of their degree to get you by after college. That was a turn off for me, I wanted to have a thorough education behind that degree.

Most people that go here are from Indiana and come with all of there high school friends, so if you do come, make sure you go to Boiler Gold RUsh, or you will have a rough transition. Hope that helps, if you have any questions just PM me. I’ll give you an honest answer. I don’t completely hate the school but I feel A&M would be a better plce to start out with, especially if you have lived in Texas your whole life. Purdue isn’t a school in my opinion to go out of state for.

Then most people are morons, because Purdue is neither private, nor Ivy League.

cgeorgio, what is your major? I am assuming that you mean you are looking for graduate school too since you said you are a college senior. Both of those schools were on my short list for my own graduate school in mechanical engineering. I ended up choosing TAMU, but you really can’t go wrong either way.

i am graduating from tennessee tech university with a 3.3 gpa in electrical engineering…digital and computer systems…and i have a 1400 gre…but i am gonna take it again to push it upto a 1500… i knw my gpa isnt high enuf…but do u think with these scores i can get into decent grad schools for masters in ece…i have virginia tech, texas anm, georgia tech, ucsd…

please let me know where could i apply and get in possibly and some other good schools i could apply to…any help will be appreciated…thank you

He makes an excellent point. Both schools are heavily populated by in-staters and it would do you well to stick to your state school just for the purposes of comfort.
