Purdue vs University of Illinois?

Thinking about either engineering or business. I have been accepted to Purdue for first-year engineering for Fall 2016, but will not hear back from University of Illinois till February, I believe. I would like to have the opportunity to be able to switch from Eng. to business if I so choose and still be able to get a great job.

Which school do you think would be a better choice for me then?

I like the environment of Purdue much better, but the business school at U of I is superior from what I’ve heard. If I do go to Purdue and want to switch to business, I could also transfer to Kelley at IU possibly.

Purdue is the superior engineering school, so if you were for-sure, I’d recommend that in a heartbeat. Krannert at Purdue is ranked well, not sure the comparison to Illinois, though. You’re going to get a good education at Purdue with either major, but it just depends on the ease they allow to switch if you so choose.

Which school are you OOS for? What are your parents saying about paying the OOS costs?

OP, you need to decide engineering or business first; then the school.

@mom2collegekids I am out of school for Purdue. My parents are fine with the cost for either school.

??

Purdue is not the superior engineering school. Both schools are ranked very similar in engineering, but I would give a slight edge to Illinois. U of I business school is also better than Purdues. Overall I would reccomendation Illinois for either major. Plus you’ll be paying in state tuition.

^I think both Purdue & U of I are state schools. See http://www.admissions.purdue.edu/costsandfinaid/tuitionfees.php & http://registrar.illinois.edu/ug-base-rates-1516

@4kidsdad Yeah, you’re right. They are talking about what would be in-state for me, I’m guessing. I live in IL. Meant out of state for Purdue BTW, my bad.

It will be harder to get in to UIUC Engineering. However, if you are not certain what you want to study (very common for seniors) then UIUC would give you the most options. Also, while UIUC business may ‘rank’ higher than Krannert it’s not the rankings you should be concerned about but the majors offered within those schools which are quite different.
