My son has been accepted at Purdue and Virginia Tech trying to decide which has better career services?

Both of these schools are among the top engineering universities in the U.S. I’m confident that the career placement office from either school has no problem attracting employers to recruit its students. Your son needs to consider which one’s “campus life” will be more comfortable for him.

I agree with LakeWashington. Both of these schools are tops for engineering and have major Engineering Expos that attract many employers. Your son does need to focus on “campus life”, location, finances, where he wants to work after college (many VT grads go to the DC area-I would imagine many Purdue grads end up in the Midwest, for instance), etc. Good luck with the decision (and congratulations).

Cost?

Also, be aware that Purdue first year engineering students need to make at least a 3.2 GPA (overall and technical) to be able to declare their desired engineering majors (biomedical may have a higher threshold). Below 3.2, it is a competitive admission process, or stay in first year engineering to try to raise your GPA in another semester’s worth or courses:

Purdue, VT… doesn’t matter, both awesome. I’d go VT though, its ACC : P

Some/all of the VT engineering majors have a competitive process also. All freshman are General Engineering, then go through a selective process for the specific major. Pretty sure you need a 3.2 for civil.

As for career services, DD1 has been very succesful with landing excellent internships through the career fair and other networking opportunities at VT. Got a great internship after sophomore year and multiple offers for the upcoming summer. She’s returning to the same company as last summer and may have an opportunity for co-op with them as well.
