Pure math at Brown

My son is a junior and interested in Brown. I have seen some posts in prior years discussing the Math dept. vs. the Applied Math dept. (the latter receiving more praise and the former getting more criticism). Putting aside large, entry-level classes – such as the ones pre-meds and engineers are required to take – are there any current Brown Math majors (or their parents) who can speak to the Math department? I realize that there are other similarly sized universities and also LACs that are strong, perhaps stronger, in Math. We definitely will need to visit while school is in session and have my son sit in on a math class. But I think the culture at Brown would suit my son well and I think he would be extremely happy there, thus my question about its Math dept. Thanks.

Following…similar situation. Probable math major that really liked Brown culture and vibe. Interested to hear feedback as well.

My son is a freshman pure math major at Brown. He absolutely loves it. Obviously he hasn’t gotten real deep into the math yet but I have no doubt it will be outstanding.
