Mathematics at Brown?

I was wondering if any Applied Math/Mathematics majors or alumni would be willing to discuss their experience at Brown. Is being a mathematics major at Brown widely respected? Are career options good after graduation? What are the classes like? I’m very curious.

Applied math is one of the strongest departments in the country and widely respected. I really don’t know where the regular math dept stands except that it is relatively strong. There are investment banks and the like who come to interview quant people for jobs.

My daughter was a mathematics-computer science major. She went to grad school in CS theory, which is math oriented, although she is in another area now. I’m sorry she hasn’t posted since she was in HS so can’t tell you what the classes were like.

Brown was awarded NSF money for a Math Institute since she was there. It can only enhance the college reputation in this area and there are summer research ops for undergrads.
