Put Honors instead of regular course on Common Application?

A while back, my school principal promised us that we have something called an Honors Diploma (or something like that) where every non-AP class is counted as honors. Now, he has said this multiple times and I believed it… So I put every non-AP class as an honors class on my Common App earlier in the year. I didn’t think much of it. It only kind of struck me now that this notion of an Honors Diploma seems weird. Plus, my school is pretty known for being incompetent (for other reasons), so this has me scared, considering decisions are coming out within the next few weeks. Of course, colleges will have my transcript, so I hope that they don’t pay too much attention to the Common App self report thing, but still, this has me somewhat stressed out. Is this something to worry about? The perks of going to a small public school in the deep south :frowning:

Thanks in advance

I wouldn’t worry about it too much. If it turns out to be untrue that your courses are Honors, you could just say you misunderstood due to what your principal told you. I would ask your GC and see if you are right or not.

Okay that makes sense. Thank a ton!

Do we go to the same school? Lol my school has the same Honors Diploma thing. I don’t think our classes all upgrade to honors though. Still, no one at our school really knows anything about it

An honors diploma doesn’t necessarily indicate all honors courses. It can mean reaching a certain level in a variety of regular level courses (so many maths, so many sciences, etc.). I think colleges will go off of what your official transcript says so I wouldn’t worry about it, but you can ask your guidance counselor to be sure.
