I am currently working as an Intern at a big company and interns are not allowed to do overtime. Last week when I was filling out my time sheet I accidentally put 8 hours on a Sunday and now I got payed $300 more. I am afraid tell them that because they might think I purposely did it and will look at my future time sheets with scrutiny. Also, I am afraid if I didn't tell they will catch me and fire me. Other than that I also want to keep the $300 for myself because I am felling greedy now (I am human!). What should I do?

I just don't know how payroll didn't catch it when they processed my time sheet. 8-X

Immediately tell them and return the $$$… Do you really want to jeopardize a future recommendation for $300? The fact that you point it out will not cause them to scrutinize your time sheets, but not telling them and them catching it will cause them to scrutinize you! Just do the right thing…$300 is not worth enough in the long run even if you are trying to put the blame back on payroll… [-X

Telling them won’t make them think you did it on purpose, but not telling them and keeping the money will. Is keeping unearned cash worth losing the internship if they see the overtime on a report and address it with you? How would you explain not realizing that you received a few hundred dollars more than you normally do?
