Pweeese chance me for Columbia, UChicago, NYU Stern, and MORE! :) Will chance back!

Being an international from China does not give you a distinct advantage. When colleges look for FA students, they don’t generally search for them in relatively well-off countries (Speaking on an educational basis, China is well-off.). Most college brochures have some line like: “We are proud to represent ‘x’ number of international students and ‘y’ number of countries.”

I did not consider Stanford looking at entrepreneurial applicants. Perhaps you will have a better chance than I suspect. Still, many other applicants also have this trait as Stanford is arguably harder to get into than many Ivies. Good luck.

Murphy600,

Isn’t that the point of a chance post to give people a rough idea (try to make my stats pretty wide, but certainly lots of different ways to do it) re prospects. I try stats simply because I want the OPs to get something more specific than high reach/match etc. Of course others may disagree and think much lower or in many cases higher chances. In my view, that is the value to the chance posts, giving students a wide variety of ideas where they might stand.

Do agree with you that no one can give more than an educated guess, but I disagree re the roll of the dice because this implies that the 1400 with a good story has as much chance at top schools as the 1550 and I simply do not believe this. While most colleges repeatedly state “holistic”, I think those holistic factors primarily come into play after a student has achieved a pretty high academic threshold. Without that threshold, absent lightening striking (and admittedly it does every now and then) those without the threshold stats have little chance. The colleges can state honestly they are holistic because they do base the admissions decisions primarily on other factors than SAT/GPA, but that is only because they are looking at potential admits who all have very high academics or have hooks. If this is not thew case, why do HYPS have such high SAT medians each year (if otherwise, I would expect more variance year to year)? I also think colleges not as forthcoming about these thresholds because they do not want to discourage applicants. Each year Harvard and many other schools (see Chicago and UCLA especially) have press releases touting how they have set a new record for applicants. This is a source of pride at the schools and also helps with the rankings.

In any event, in my view this OP has the stats (even for an int’l) that gets him into serious consideration and then the ECs that at least in my view distinguish him from the pack, which is why I give him such good chances (although still no better than 33 to 50% at the four most difficult schools admissions-wise.

Thanks everyone for the chances!

BTW - I’m not international. I LIVE outside America, but for admission purposes I am considered an American, because of citizenship. I was born and lived for a few years in America, and have a US passport. So in effect, I am an American, but I can also offer international experience at the same time.

All else considered equal, will this international experience make my application superior to other Americans who have only lived inside US borders?

Bumpity bump! :d

If you ask me your ECs are VERY solid tbh and your SATs are fine too. So according to me :

Columbia - High Match/Low Reach
NYU Stern - Match
Dartmouth - High Match
UCB - Match

I can see you getting into Stern and UCB probably. But we’re not adcoms and we cannot predict it correctly.
So, all the best, and focus on your essays! :)

And, please chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1411650-chance-indian-hypd-cornell-mit-will-chance-back-2.html

bumpity bump :)

I think you should also emphasize that fact that its difficult to do any large scaled non academic EC in China.

Chance back!
