Q&A about Middlesex

Hey guys, I'm a sophomore at Middlesex and I would love to answer any questions about the school or boarding school life in general!

So.... Ask away!!! :D

well what’s your favorite thing about Middlesex? and is their writing program as amazing as everyone says it is? are people friendly? lol I have a lot of questions but these are the first that come to mind right now, thanks :D

do you know anyone who got in without an interview?

@Plainjane23: My favorite thing about Middlesex would definitely be the writing/English program. We do boast one of the best writing programs in the boarding school communities and it is very difficult. When I first came to MX, everything that I had learned about writing in my previous school really had no significant importance here at MX. Basically, the students are encouraged to ‘forget’ their previous knowledge in writing and to embrace the MX writing style. I would say that it was at first difficult, but after some of the writing workshop classes (mandatory for all sophomores), I grew accustomed to the structure and style of the infamous ‘Middlesex Paragraph’. Even now I am still learning new techniques and structures about writing essays.
It’s intense, but if you review and study the notes given from the English classes, you can definitely succeed.

No, I actually don’t know anyone who got in without taking an interview.
I strongly suggest that you take an interview. The school gets a better picture of the applicant that way. Also, applicants have to write a short essay during their visit at MX (I guess to assess the student’s writing ability).

Since Middlesex is a small school (similar to that of Groton), the students here are very tight-knit. You get to know almost everyone in the school and it’s harder to fall in the cracks here.
The students here are very friendly and encouraging. The only way to meet MX students is to visit the campus itself!

Is the foreign language recommendation absolutely mandatory? Is there anyway that I can substitute it for science? I am taking a language course it’s just that my teacher has a lot of students and I think my chem teacher knows me better.
