It's definitely a top tier school.

I have the brochure. It's a beatiful school but i learned about this school after the admission deadline. The college matriculations make it a top tier school. From the looks of it....it has a huge campus.

Yup, first tuer, most definetly. Often thought of as a sister school of Groton, it was modeled after it after all! :D They have very strong sports teams to. Really good football. Established in 1901, but has the architectual style of Groton and Andover.. You would love it dancerx!! :D

I have a D currently a Junior at MX and My rising 9th grader was waitlisted. Bummer....... It has great academics with dedicated teachers . For those more interested in college matrics, it does quite well in that department as well. My D loves MX...Its location is very nice. The campus is quite beautiful. It consistently ranks in the top 10 of boearding schools for ivy/stanford/mit matrics. I believe it was recently ranked number 7 or 8. It was ranked number 2 only behind Andover as the best prep school in the greater Boston area. I believe it was Boston magazine who did the ranking. Good Luck!

prepparent, I am stunned. Do you have an idea what caused the waitlist? So sorry for your 9th grader but hopefully she will get movement off the list.

Sorry prepparent. Let us know where your daughter decides to attend. Nice to see you post something again, even if it wasn't the happiest news.

Thanks for the support. Initially she took it a bit hard but, we will pursue the waitlist and see what happens. She is in better spirits because she has been accepted to Emma Willard, Westover, Miss Porters Portsmouth abbey, SMS, and Pomfret.

catg, hmm, If I had to guess, the interview went very poorly. In fact my wife and me both agreed it did not go well. What's interesting is that we have such familiarity with the school and the interviewer and to have the interview go bad in our opinion, truly means it didn't go so well.

Although we would love to have both our D's at Mx, I truly believe that this is meant to be because some other school must be better suited for her. We would have never known this if she did get into mx because we probably wouldn't have given it a second thought. I guess we shall see.

You're back!

I'm sorry about your daughter. Those other schools are really great, though.

Prepparent - good luck wherever your d chooses to go. Last year there were several Westover students posting on the CC site who were extremely happy at their school. Your d has lots of great choices no matter what she decides.

Middlesex was my first school visit...ever...this past september, and from the moment I arrived onto campus a gut feeling was an instant love for it. I was accepted there for the class of '10 being a boarder starting in sept 07-08 yr. It is most definitely a top tier school. The people who I met and took me around were so welcoming and warm. I do not know if I am going there yet, it is definitley one of my top choices with groton, l'ville, loomis... The sports (at least lacrosse) are(is) excellent.

Marilee Jones, the Dean of Admission at MIT, sent her daughter to Middlesex (graduated this past year, I believe). They must be doing something right.

My d is a senior at Mx and it has been an incredible experience for her. For a small, close community it has challenging academics, amazing sport opportunities, and a strong arts program. Lots of traditions including senior plaques and senior chapel. Great dorms - single rooms and large doubles. A healthy smattering of faculty kids and dogs on campus. Many students go to Ivies, many kids go to a best fit colleges. It all seems to work with strong curricula for all. I am concerned that college will be a bit of a let down for my d. What I do know is that she will be well-prepared. Good luck with your decisions.

momgeh50 what is senior chapel? I saw the plaques when we visited.

prepparent,

My condolences on the results at Mx. But from the looks of things, you follow your own advice well and have a good variety of schools to choose from.

And in the end, I think it may be better for your daughters (even though they may be close) to be at different schools. They will share parallel experiences with plenty to talk about in off-times, while each not worrying about each other on a day to day basis.

Do PM biffgnar to get his take on Pomfret, as it looks likely that his daughter will start there in September, although I'm sure you are well researched. I find his take on things very clear and to the point.

And of course, welcome back. We've missed you around these parts!

Seniors can sign up to speak at Wednesday chapel (non-denominational, great hymnal) and it is their time to use. Some seniors perform, some speak. Our d had hers a few weeks back, I was a weepy mess. It was beautiful - she spoke about her Mx experience. She had her younger sister (not a Mx student) read a poem. We could not have been more proud.

ahem, my conscience compels me to alert the originator of this thread that if you are considering middlesex, you should immediately stop and get over to st. georges' campus and you will no where to go..... seriously

I would have applied... if they had a volleyball program.

prepschool6 did you mean Know instead of no?

Yes, she did mean know.... it's just internet chat though. :D
