Q about Presidential scholar

I’m a rising senior wondering about this program with two questions.

  1. How do you get nominated?
  2. If you have taken both the ACT and SAT, do you need a perfect score on both? I have a 34 ACT but a 1470 SAT, so I’m focusing on the ACT instead to try for a perfect. Does that matter if I have one that meets qualifications and one that doesn’t? Do they look at both. (I understand this is premature , but I have friends who were wondering too who have better scores than I)

My D (HS class of 2016) was nominated, I believe because her perfect single-sitting SAT score (Verbal and Math subsections only - they didn’t use the writing section). She never took the ACT. She was one of 10 kids in her HS class of 200 who got either a 1600 V&M or a 36 ACT, so they all received nominations. Obviously a perfect score isn’t required if no one in your state got one. I believe they take whatever number of the highest scorers per state.

There is also another track for nomination that I believe has something to do with artistic skill, but I know nothing about it.

FWIW, she was notified maybe in December or January of her senior year.
