hey guys, i had a quick question on the autobiography essay. I’m applying to many schools and consequently have three pretty solid essays that i’ve been reusing and rephrasing for all of the prompts. One of them deals with an experience I had a few months back and I was hoping to reuse it for this (since none of my essays even remotely match the other two oO) but… well it’s kinda short for one thing (only about 250 words) and its pretty early on in my life if i was to live the normal 80 years or w/e. It’s supposed to be a “page” out of the biography and 217 out of 300 meaning it’s after the midpoint of my life and all.

i was wondering if it would be buyable if i lengthed it a bit and then worked under the assumption that 1. the pages are not 8.5’ x 11’ pieces of paper but are smaller like many novels (justifying the shorter length) and that 2. i was writing this at age 24 having contracted a deadly disease and was writing about my life on my hospital bed (justifying the fact that the experience took place at age 17)?

basically, how strict are they on this in accepting essays that depart from the norm a bit. the examples i’ve seen on this topic usually are a page in length and talk about them winning the nobel prize or taking a vacation at age 68 or w/e. thanks for the opinions guys =).

For the last freaking time, 217/300 means two-thirds of your life AT THE (FANTASY) TIME YOU ARE WRITING YOUR AUTOBIOGRAPHY. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE IN THE FUTURE.

Anyways, I reused my Chicago essay and tweaked it slightly to fit the 217/300 prompt. I got in ED.

thanks jpps ^^. I was just worried before that they might look down upon my essay since it might seem obvious that it was reused but it seems like it should be okay since you used your chicago one?

o, and sorry if i asked a question that's been posed many times already... haven't really been around these boards long and didn't see it after a quick perusing =X.

And you have a history of making posts for no other reason than to chide me. Sounds like you're stooping to my level. Why do you keep defending totally clueless posters? Do you not think there's something wrong when Ivy League applicants don't try to think or find answers for themselves before flooding message boards? The fact is that I still do convey some useful information to the poster, while you just come on and act all high and mighty.

What is your fixation that I get an "ego boost" from berating posters? To tell you the truth, I don't need an ego boost--I live a great life and I'll be going to one of the best universities in the world next year. However, while I'm posting in this forum, I will berate posters whose first reaction to a problem is to ask other people to solve it for them--it genuinely bothers me. This forum is not for that mindless crap. Is there a reason you always have to respond to my posts? Does it give you an ego boost? Do you enjoy playing hall monitor?

I have 961 posts and 0 are "genuinely negative toward another (undeserving) poster."

P.S. You know that if you stop replying, I won't have anything to respond to. You know very well how to give yourself a "break" if you really wanted one. : )

I'm from Detroit, so my p217 is obviously incorporating a lot about the Big Three automakers. Somewhat about how I went to germany as part of daimlerchryslers exchange program.

It will be interesting to read when I finish it tommorow. I've been stumped about this for a while, and it just seems like this is it.

It's probably a bad idea, but I wouldn't be crushed if I didnt get into penn, so my focus is to just get the app done and hope for the best.
