So... I have a bunch of questions on Northwestern credit policy and other stuff and I wanted to get general feel of how other people did in their evaluations too.
1) First things first. In the new student week website, it seems like that they ask freshmen to take placement tests online. As transfers, should we do it too? And btw if anyone has the general ed requirements for WCAS, I'd really appreciate it.

2) Coming in as sophomore transfer, I took 16 and 14 credits respectively at my former school. They "accepted" all my credits except it looks really skewed since they're on quarters. They awarded me 11 quarters out of 12, is this decent or should I fight for one more general credit? And is NU generally good with negotiating credit evaluations? They definitely screwed over some of my courses giving me a religion tradition credit for an intro to geography that I took 1st semester.

3) On my "Internal GPA" section, there's an N/A. Does that mean NU will just give me credits but not honor the GPA that I received from my previous school?

4) Did anyone get back-credits? I placed out of French 1,2,3 at my former school and went straight to French 4 but Mizzou gave me credits for those courses. NU didn't give me anything for them... Same goes for my chemistry so I'm wondering if they just give you credit for what you have actually taken.

5) What is NU's limitations on the maximum number of APs that they will accept? I'm not bringing in a ton but I'm just wondering.

Hey. Welcome to the NU transfer group.. you should definitely join us on facebook if you haven't already.

1) I'm still iffy on the online placement tests too, but I've been told not to on certain occasions because I took the classes for them freshman year, and those are more indicative than the test. So I don't plan to take any. But I'd consult an adivsor with specific questions. The gen ed requirements are here: http://www.wcas.northwestern.edu/advising/distro.html and there's a link there to the actual courses in the fall that fulfill each. FYI, you can fulfill up to half of the 12 distributionals with AP credits.

2) Again, I'm not all that sure, because my school was on a semester schedule with one class = one credit system. However, I took the normal load freshman year and ended up with 11 quarter credits, and I'd say that's not bad. I know I'm going to bring in the syllabus for one of my courses to try and show them it counts for a different distribution, but I don't know how much effect that will have. But they schedule a whole bunch of advisor meetings for new student week, so I wouldn't worry.

3) I think internal gpa just means gpa for when you're at NU. I don't really think it matters. Again, anyone is free to tell me I'm wrong.

4) I'm not sure what you mean by back-credits. If you have 11 credits, you don't really need to worry about graduating with enough, so you're probably just fine. They're definitely not going to make you start all over or anything.

5) What I said before on APs (that a total of 6 distributional credits is max) is pretty much all I know, but they're pretty generous on what credits they'll give if you got 5's... not that I have that many either. That can be found here: http://www.ugadm.northwestern.edu/freshman/credit .

Hope that all helps. Feel free to PM me... i've done a whole bunch of research... it might as well help someone.
