transferring to NU

hi,

im currently a freshman at UW madison and am looking into transferring to Northwestern after sophomore year.

some info..
major: mechanical engineering
northwestern is instate
i had 24 credits coming in

a couple questions:..

1) as i was browsing their website, i noticed this...

"The following courses do not transfer:

Courses for which credit was granted by institutional examination rather than course attendance"

and then under that it says...

"In nearly all areas, credit will be given for CEEB Advanced Placement Examination scores of 4 or 5 or higher-level International Baccalaureate results of 5 or higher. You must arrange to have your scores sent to Northwestern"

at UW, i got a 3 on the AP CALC BC test, but that tested me out of 2 semesters of calc, and therefore i am taking higher level math. how does this transfer?

2) chances of transferring as a sophomore vs as a junior
i am leaning towards transferring as a junior because i want to work on bringing my GPA up

3) is there a recommended number of credits per semester?
i took 12 first semester, and planning on taking 14 this coming semester, but may add another class if necessary

1) It doesn’t sound like you got credit for your AP Calc, but just tested into a higher level, so you shouldn’t be affected.

2) For soph transfers, HS record (gpa and course rigor) and test scores are weighted more than for jr transfers who have their college record given greater weight.

3) Generally 12 credits is considered the minimum for a full load, 15-16 is average and 18 is a heavy load. As with all application factors, the more the better (if you keep your grades up at the same time).
