QU! Is it really a good school OR not?

Thanks for sharing this info. My daughter is very interested in QU and the PT program and it helps to hear the insider’s viewpoint.

QU has excellent programs, especially reputable in the health and science majors with state of the art, stellar facilities and top notch faculty. One visit to the school and the North Haven Campus (health science facilities) and you will see first hand. It is a privilege to attend this campus as a health science major. Check out the new medical school, Frank Netter Med School and law school on North Haven Campus. Best of luck!

Hello, I’m currently a freshman political science major at Quinnipiac and I absolutely love it. I chose it over American University, Rutgers University at New Brunswick and University of Maryland College Park. I just got done orientation and everything was great, our group leaders answer all of our questions and you meet people really easy. Our RAs are fantastic, they make sure they lay down the rules but they also understand that we are trying to have fun and the rules make it a great balance. We have not started classes yet but I have meet almost all of the professors of the Philosophy and Political Science program, I would definitely recommend it to anyone so far, but like I said, I have not started classes yet and things may change but so far it has made a fantastic first impression.

Quinnipiac is a fantastic school - the academics, especially the health and science majors, are top notch with state of the art facilities on the North Haven campus. From orientation, to move in day (great move in crew that gets all of your stuff to your room in minutes), to the RAs help, the teachers interested in the students and their success, smaller class sizes. Social life is great - dorms are at least above average compared to most colleges, and the suites (if you are fortunate to get one) are excellent. The Sleeping Giant Park surrounds the campus and is great for hiking. There is a club/intramural fair the first week to make students aware of all of the organizations, clubs and intramural activities available. The shuttle bus is free and takes you all around Hamden and New Haven, where there are many restaurants and places to go out.I know many other students who currently go to QU, and many that have graduated - they ALL love the school, as I already do!!

It’s a great school. A tier or two below Yale perhaps and the top LAC’s in the state but I feel like it’s about equal if not better than the overrated UConn and all the other privates and public’s in the state. The medical, business and communications programs are state of the art and while my majors(political science and history) aren’t as good they are still well above average in the quality of the faculty and classes. The school is beautiful and while the food is dreadful you don’t go to college to eat gourmet meals you go to get a top notch education.

QU is definitely not better than UConn, which is a more difficult school to get into, more affordable and overall also has better job placement. To say that Quinnipiac is a tier or two below Yale is…well, it is like four levels below Yale. The school is not nearly as selective these days due to tremendous financial troubles.

Yes Quinnipiac is inferior to Yale and will always be (like most schools). However Quinnipiac is one of the fastest improving schools in the nation and has been voted the Best Up and Coming School in the North Region for the last three years in USNWR. QU is currently ranked NO.9 in the North Region and due to it’s rapidly expanding graduate programs will probably be promoted to National University in the next few years (my best guess is when the first medical school class graduates). This is not bad at all. In my opinion the (undergraduate) academics at QU at face value are equal if not better than UCONN however seeing how UCONN is so much cheaper especially for Connecticut residents I understand why it’s a smarter choice for most. However UCONN is a better institution overall due to it’s superior graduate programs and if QU were to be ranked nationally today it would be behind UCONN (my guess is in the 80s or 90s). Also Quinnipiac has a slightly larger endowment than UCONN and just spent a ton of money on it’s new graduate campus so I don’t know what financial troubles you’re referring too.

Check out the 25%/75% SAT scores:
SAT Critical Reading: 490 / 580
SAT Math: 510 / 610
SAT Writing: 500 / 590

In other words, 25% of those enrolled earned scores of below 1500 on a 2400 scale. I would consider that an inferior school, not just to Yale but to most of the universities.
<a href=“Quinnipiac University: Acceptance Rate, SAT/ACT Scores, GPA”>http://collegeapps.about.com/od/collegeprofiles/p/quinnipiac-university.htm</a></p>

And the nearly $10Million that Quinnipiac has to pay for its Title IX lawsuit is only part of its financial problems:
https://www.womenssportsfoundation.org/en/home/she-network/education/huge-title-ix-victory-today-in-quinnipiac-university-case</a></p>

Well yes I’m aware of the infamous Volleyball Lawsuit. However QU has the 10 million to pay it’s spent a good amount more than that on the new law building for example and it’s endowment is over 300 million. And again I know QU’s stats are well inferior to Yale and the Tier 1 schools but the stats showed above aren’t bad at all as it shows the 25th percentile scores a 1500 while the 75th scores a 1780. Yes QU doesn’t grab that many of the 2000 plus scorers but then again most schools don’t. If almost a quarter of the student body scores an 1800 or above on the SAT and I’m guessing around 10 or more score 2000 that’s not an elite school but certainly one far above average.

Hello, I am debating Athletic Training program between Stony Brook on Long Island NY and QU. Stony Brook is public college with price tag around $8k-$9k compare to QU at $50k, but class size at Stony Brook is like 300-400 while QU is like under 20 students. Please, any of you out there, parents and/or students of past/future/present of both colleges, please give me some advise. Deadline for confirming is fast approaching.

Much appreciated

@mocs16, QU pricetag is 6-7 times the price!? Have DS go to Stony Brook
