Does anyone have any information on the quality of the creative writing program (as part of the overall English Department) at Hamilton? Also, is the Hamilton "name" recognized by graduate schools in Creative Writing/English? How does the creative writing program at Hamilton compare to those at Middlebury and Colorado College? Which school has the best program? Any information on any of these questions would be greatly appreciated.

There is no better school to study creative writing than hamilton college. that is why i went here. they are nationally ranked as having the 2nd writing program in the country. that is pretty hard to beat!

Yes, Hamilton is very well known for this. However, I now really want to know, who was rated 1st.

Does anyone know who was rated 1st?

hahaha good luck trying to find out. i did 6 months of research and STILL couldn’t find the info! whatever school is #1… they definitely don’t advertise it well.

lacigam04, what do you major in?

creative writing. (though technically i am undeclared because I am a freshman!!!)

I want to come visit campus this month … any English/creative writing courses that you recommend I sit in on?

uhh… anything peter rabinowitz would be fantastic!! i heard the creative writing section at 2:30 to 3:45 Wednesdays and Fridays was really good too. I, personally, LOVE the comparative literature classes at hamilton. there’s a cool Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Anime class from 11:00 to 12:15. And… hmm… Strout’s Shakespeare class is fantastic (I don’t have it… but I observed it when I was a prospective student.) Shakespeare is from 10:00 to 10:50 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

lots of great options!!!
:-)

thank you!

no problem! let me know which you decide to observe!!
