What’s the scoop on the guy claiming to be Charles’ and Camilla’s love child? (Simon Durante-Day)? Is he just a flake?
He’s cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs in the same delusional way that Anna Anderson claimed to be Grand Duchess Anastasia and has been making the claims for years
I got in the queue at 00.30 Thursday morning at the 2.8 mile mark and said my final goodbye to The Queen at 08.20. We were not given our wristbands until 5 hours into the line.
If I’d known it was 8 hours I wouldn’t have done it (I expected 4hours) but I’m so very glad I did it, I was overcome with emotion seeing her casket. It is an indescribable feeling when you walk into Westminster Hall.
I was in a train with people just flown in from Australia and Thailand. One dressed like a version of crocodile Dundee, my guess he and his wife from Australia. I’ve read hotel occupancy is over 95% in London. So glad I booked a long time ago, but I can’t check in until 4pm.
What an incredible and beautiful funeral.
I don’t know much about royalty. Does anyone have a summary of the different participants? The news identified the Queen’s page and Lord Chamberlain but I would like to read about the others who participated in the different portions of the funeral.
The news stated that Peter Phillips and Zara & Mike Tindall would sit next to William and Catherine but it looks like Harry and Meghan sat there instead. I’m sure there is significance as to who sits where. Can anyone explain for me?
Harry and Meghan sat behind Charles and Camilla. Peter Philips, Zara Tindall and Mike Tindall were next to William and Kate.
My guess is they roughly lined the grandkids by age, with William going first as Prince of Wales
Check The Daily Mail. They have some great pictures of the funeral and at least one where people are identified. Boy, the British can really do pageantry!!!
The older Tindall children attended the committal at Windsor as well as the Wales children. I did not see whether Peter Philips children were there. My guess is that they were all given front row seats so that they could see everything easily. Of course, I’m probably wrong and there might have been some other protocol reason. I will never know.
Zara Tindall has looked really stunning at all of the events in the last 10 days. She has always been attractive, but I think she is growing more beautiful with age.
I am just fascinated with the idea of monarchy. That someone, just by accident of birth, is destined to be treated so specially that they are bowed to by every single person on the planet!
And this being CC, i find it funny that poor William is not allowed to “follow his passion” or figure out what he wants to do with his life. His life was pre-ordained from the moment of conception!
AFAIK, non-UK citizens aren’t required to bow to the monarch.
You are correct
We need a Shakespeare to imagine what’s going on in Charles’s head as he hears “God Save The King” with a billion people watching. What can it be like to have your first chance to be a man at age 73? And even if he lives to be 100 and does a great job every single day until he dies, he’ll never be revered like she was. I hope the folks over at “The Crown” are up to the task.
I wonder if Prince George was sitting there today thinking “this will all be happening for me in about 70 years time…”
I highly recommend the play, Charles III by Mike Bartlett that speculates on the (then) future accession to the throne of Prince Charles. It’s done very much in the style of a Shakespearian tragedy. It was originally performed in the west end and had a run on broadway maybe 5 years ago. It was recorded and shown on PBS Masterpiece a couple of years ago and it was excellent. I haven’t looked for it recently but I’ll bet it can be found online and wouldn’t be at all surprised if it starts being shown again.
There is a trailer for it on YouTube. It’s really worth watching.
I am confused by this statement. Did you mean to type “king”? He has had ample time to “be a man”.
Every person on the planet? Not even close. Many of us don’t care. And I really don’t understand the fascination with this archaic institution.
No, I meant be a man. If, not by your own choice, your mom is your employer, controls what you study in college, who you can marry, what career you can practice, etc., I don’t think you have had the chance to be a man. He hasn’t had meaningful control of his own life. He has been under the Queen’s thumb to a greater degree than his siblings or even Prince William.
He has made countless terrible decisions about how to handle this predicament. But I think yesterday was the first time he actually stood on his own feet.
I’m hoping that the King lives a while (maybe not to age 96) because it’s too early for William and his family to take over - too much responsibility and attention although they are not really leading a normal life now either. I find myself oddly concerned that Charles will die too soon.
