Query: Common App

This may be in the wrong place, but this is basically the only forum I check, so before I get bashed, I'd appreciate it if you'd answer a question. So on the Common App, we have room to list descriptions of activities. If, by chance, some of the info got cut off (despite the box not being filled to capacity), how negatively will this affect my chances of admission to Yale? I attached a well designed resume that actually better captures my accomplishments and activities, so the admissions advisers are at least aware of what was put in those boxes, despite being cut off.

The Common App help section addresses this. It states that the PDF you view when you click the “view PDF” button on the top of the screen is exactly what colleges will see. Common App states that it is best to be precise. As for the resume, it’s up to you. I don’t think anyone here can certifiably say that the ivies like/dislike resumes.

basically they’ll know you can’t follow directions but that’s about it

On the Elihu Yale facebook page, they say that it won’t hurt your chance of admission.

Send the rest in to your regional admissions rep. They want to know about you. Don’t just be penalized by the Common App’s design flaws. Fix it and make it right. Point out that it was all inputted as of the due date and that it got deleted when transferred from the on-line data entry page into a .pdf file. There’s an outside chance they’ll ignore you. My guess is that they’ll put your e-mail into your file and give it as much weight as the rest of the activities that made it through via the Common App. What are you doing still reading this? Send it in already! Sheesh.

A couple of things. I did look at the PDF and it was all in order at the time. I honestly don’t know what happened. And just so that you’re aware D’yer Maker, I actually had it (the resume) attached when I finished the app.
