Questbridge Class of 2018 applicants

I mostly looked for vibe and the quality of their social science programs. These are all top colleges; you can’t really go wrong with a decision unless you don’t enjoy the atmosphere or the college doesn’t have your major of choice.

I just did the non binding ones

I’m not ranking any colleges. Is that a bad idea?

I feel like the acceptance rate for colleges of QB applicants is really low (especially the non-binding schools). I almost think it’s better to shoot for Finalist w/o ranking anything, and then apply early to the one school I’m in love with. If I don’t get in, then I’ll do QB RD. I feel like it’s better than doing the National College Match, honestly (because they have a quota of QB applicants to accept and so you’re directly competing w/ people that have been homeless, have 8 siblings, are illegal immigrants, and still managed stellar grades).

I am doing the same thing @mohammadmohd18

are you talking about QB RDing to the same college if you don’t make it in as ED1? or QB RDing to other colleges?

for my top choice, i emailed them and they said that if I ED1 outside of QBs NCM and I dont get in, its the end for me, but if I QB NCM rank them and don’t get in, I get a second chance at QB ED2 or QB RD.

choices, choices, choices. its driving me crazy trying to find which one is the best! my financial situation already puts me EFC at 0 so not participating in the match doesn’t do much financially. @mohammadmohd18

@IllIlllIIllllll No. I’m saying, for example, if I really want to go to Stanford, right? Just stats-wise, it’s better to apply as a QB Finalist REA than through the QB National Match pool. Of course, then I wouldn’t get the chance to apply there again during RD, but I’m not sure that that really matters. They’d just reject me again, right?

So instead, I’m going to take the risk and apply to the school I love, and if I don’t get it, then fine. I’m not going to torture myself by applying through RD again. And then I’ll use QB to apply RD to other colleges.

Any of you not make prep scholar and still applying for college match?

@mohammadmohd18

About them rejecting you again, if you got rejected during NCM, why would they give us an option to go ED2/RD then if we failed to match? You’re probably right about it being harder to match since they have to pay a fee to QB and the pool stuff.

It’s not going to be my case most likely, but ED2/RDing after the match can give you a 2nd chance to improve your app or reconsider it? I mean, they give you a second chance for a reason? Most people say that college will only match if you have an EFC of 0, but they might accept you in RD since matching is basically the same as having an EFC of 0 and they don’t want to pay extra for you if you could just go through RD

And also, aren’t we compared to the NCM aannd the ED pool? Or just the NCM pool…

@IllIlllIIllllll Like, I’m applying to schools X, Y, and Z regardless of whether or not I become a Finalist. And from what I’ve heard, ranking the 4 non-binding colleges in NCM, getting rejected, and then using QBRD doesn’t change much.

And I think we’re compared to the other regular students, obviously, but if they’re going to accept a QB applicant, they have to consider how many they’ve already taken or plan to take.

@mohammadmohd18, I find your post #22 a bit rude and unsettling. ALL Questbridge applicants have faced challenges, whether economic, bad family dynamics or otherwise. To call out homeless applicants, with 8 siblings or being an illegal immigrant as having an advantage is presumptuous of you. IMO, you are doing yourself a disservice by foregoing Stanford in the Match. Just my 2 cents, but I have a kid who was accepted to a “top” QB school in the match without a sob story. Good luck.

@CottonTales I didn’t mean any disrespect–however, what I pointed out is not untrue. QB applicants compete with each other for spots, and just like in regular admissions, if someone has faced significantly more challenges than you and yet is still accomplished, it will do nothing but help them in the admissions process. As you well know, there are different levels of poverty and of adversity, and to pretend that there aren’t isn’t helpful. I actually find it quite disingenuous. I respect your opinion, but I’m not deciding to rank colleges because I’ve looked at the stats and made an opinion from that. And congratulations for your kid.

What colleges is everyone ranking? I’m doing Williams, Carleton, Amherst, Bowdoin, and maybe Princeton, in that order.

@Princefan1999
Given your handle-name I am curious as to your strategy/why Princeton is last instead of first in your ranking.

^ I’m pretty sure he, or she is a Prince fan, 1999 referring to the song.

Prince the musician, not Princeton the college @Volunteerism

@Princefan1999
Oh… lol

I put some of the typical choices (Princeton, Yale, UPenn, Stanford) and Duke since I know of them and some of them are closer to home, but I feel like I should give some of the other colleges a chance. My problem is that I don’t know too much about the other schools, and I’m trying to follow a more Pre-Med approach…

Anyone know any good places to find info about these other schools?

My English teacher just made edits to my QB essay and there are so many grammar mistakes; I feel terrible now.

So…is it too late for me to somehow mention (particularly on my QB application) that I am going to attend the diversity fly in for my #1 choice? I didn’t mention that information at all on my application, so do you think the college will know that I went from seeing my name alone or…? This is a really embarrassing question, but…
