@StudentWarrior I’m not sure exactly. I couldn’t apply for any summer programs due to other conflicts, so I really haven’t been paying too much attention to them, but ik it’s a mess over there. Like people are emailing QB the same question and getting contradicting statements.
Did the Yale young global scholars decisions come out yet?
My d who was not accepted into the summer program received a travel voucher today from Carleton also. Is this a different program? Could she expect to see others?
That would be a voucher for a fly-in program visit
@Meddy Every CPS got a travel voucher from Carleton I think. I think the fly in programs are actually full pay and not just 250 bucks and are more selective.
@kassh4 I didn’t get one. I’m checking my mail tomorrow though just to make sure.
@kassh4 Help a mother out CPS stands for?
@Meddy Colleg Prep Scholar
Duh @kassh4 it just dawned on me College Prep Scholar. Even though she only applied and wasn’t accepted, it surprised me to get anything QB related.
Do all Questbridge partner schools give out free visits, or is it just a select few? I’m really hoping to get a free visit to schools like Stanford, Yale, and UChicago.
I believe it’s a select few. They will send you an email about the fly-in program and you have to apply for it. Not guaranteed. We never took advantage of it.
If we are CPS are we automatically Finalists? Or is it just that we have a boost?
@littlechild No, you are not considered finalists, you get a heads up on essay prompts and you don’t have fill out your personal information again. Many NCM finalists don’t even apply CPS. Good luck in your “Quest”
Only a small number of schools do fly-in programs. Many are not just for QuestBridge - just for certain ‘groups’. Some are low income, others are for underrepresented minorities. I saw one that was only for African American applicants (I am Hispanic). So it really varies. I have never seen anything (QB or otherwise) mentioning fly-ins for Stanford, Yale etc.
@kassh4 Yes, I was replying to @tooksattoday1 who asked “Who got all-expense-paid nominations?!” Which I interpreted as referring to one of the perks of being a CPS, which is being nominated for all-expense paid fly-ins. You are correct, they are typically held in the Fall. She did receive invites to apply for all expense visits to the ones hosted by Williams and Swarthmore, she also received two additional invites to apply to two other schools all expense paid visits that are specifically related to QuestBridge. And, of course, lots of info regarding self pay trips to various colleges…
Does anyone know if QB allows self-reporting for ACT/SAT when doing the Match program? They allowed it when filling out the CPS app and if they do for match too that would save a lot of money.
@kassh4 Here’s the policy for Bowdoin College.
Students participating in the Match process need not submit official scores to Bowdoin College. Students who have ranked Bowdoin in the National College Match will receive a Bowdoin specific applicant portal where they may request suppression of standardized test scores.
Meanwhile, Hamilton College requires official test scores from College Board.
You’ll have to check the app requirements for the specific colleges you’re applying to.
You can self report to QB during the college process, however if you are a finalist you will need to provide official scores to the schools that require them. The whole process this year was 11 days from when we found out that we were finalists to when we had to submit applications to our matched schools
@GeoffWii2 So do you need to submit the ACT scores before you are chosen as a finalist because 11 days does not seem like ample time for the scores to get delivered.
You have to take the ACT test by September and you can self report to QB and if a finalist you then officially submit to your matches
