Hi everyone! Everyone who got accepted into the Questbridge College Prep Scholars program this year can post what they got as a part of their acceptance!
This is the correct thread!
I was accepted. I am really surprised since I wrote all my essays in 5 hours before the deadline (10:00 PM - 2:59 AM EST).I think its mainly because the other areas of my application were really strong. If you guys were to give a percentage, how much would you say the essays count towards the application? I thought it would be the most major one. Now I have to go eat a whole chili pepper.
whats that template that ppl use for result threads? could someone post it
This is from another thread

[ b]Why you think you were accepted/not accepted and general comments:**
Decision: Rejected
Objective:
[ul]
[] SAT I (Comp, Essay, R/W, M ): N/A (haven’t taken it yet)
[] ACT (Comp, Essay, Eng, Math, Read, Sci): 36, 11, 36, 34, 36, 36
[] SAT II (Type, Score): Chem, 790
[] Weighted GPA (out of ??): 4.469 (5 is the max but also impossible because of mandated courses)
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): School doesn’t give either, but I have to be in the top 5%
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): AP World (3), AP Bio (5), APUSH (4), AP Chem (5)
[] IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
[li] Major Awards: Nothing much except honor roll, 2nd in Ohio in Future Problem Solving individual competition (9th grade), AP Scholar with Honor, and some small school awards[/li][/ul]
Subjective:
[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Tedx (Head of Marketing), local youth orchestra (piccolo section leader), Mock Trial, Future Problem Solving, Gay-Straight Alliance, Band (flute section leader)
[] Job/Work Experience: I pretty much man the house, but no formal work experience
[] Volunteer/Community service: I participated in my school’s pit orchestra, I accompany the chorus at a local church, and I do yearly matinees with my youth orchestra to teach inner-city kids about music
[] Summer Activities: Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp for two years (both on scholarship because I couldn’t afford it otherwise), Interlochen Arts Camp in 2017 (again on some hefty financial aid)
[] Essays: Honestly, I thought they were really good. I poured my heart and soul into those damn essays
[] Teacher Recommendations: 12/10. The teacher who wrote a rec letter for me is famous at my school for writing the best rec letters, and even though I didn’t get to read it, we talked for a long time about Questbridge and I could tell that she wrote a good letter
[li] Counselor Rec: N/A[/li][/ul]

[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Gender: F
[] Income Bracket: <$15k
[] Assets: (listed in property)
[] Property: House is worth about $250k (bought before my dad lost his job, was able to pay off the mortgage before then), we have about $90,000 in real-estate because my parents wanted to start a real-estate business to help us with income, but it’s kinda failing and I think we’re actually losing money from it
[] Extenuating Circumstances: Abusive relationship, my father lost his job in 2012, mother works two part-time jobs in order to help my family, victim of bullying, afflicted with mental illness for the majority of my life
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): [/li][/ul]
**Why you think you were accepted/not accepted and general comments: **
Honestly, the only thing it could have been is the high assets, which really sucks because they’re really not helping us at all, and I know people who became a CPS even owning an entire furniture business (no shade, but that’s gotta be high assets too). I was really hoping that Questbridge would look past that, especially given how low my income is, but apparently the world decided to hate me today

[ b]Objective:**
[ list]
- ACT (Comp, Essay, Eng, Math, Read, Sci): 33, 10, 36, 29, 32, 34

- Summer Activities: I didn’t mention any on my application
- Essays: I wrote my biographical essay about how three things people have said to/about me best define me, within that I wrote about skipping two grades and the impostor syndrome that accompanied that.
- Teacher Recommendations: The teacher who wrote my recommendation knows me pretty well and is a very intelligent, thoughtful person, so although I didn’t read his letter of recommendation, I trust that it was very good.

- Extenuating Circumstances: Not much worth mentioning, but my parents are both self-employed, so money hasn’t been very easy.
- Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): I skipped two grades, so when I submitted the application, I had the hook of being a 14-year-old junior in high school (since then I’ve turned 15, though).

[ b]Why you think you were accepted/not accepted and general comments:**
I definitely think the whole “14-year-old junior” thing helped me, but I think my ACT is relatively strong and I feel good about my extracurriculars.

I think I got accepted because I fit their mold of low-income, high-achieving students. Honestly, I’m not too sure.
Whoa. I have no idea what I did wrong but it looks terrible. Can someone help?

Why you think you were accepted/not accepted and general comments:
I don’t think there was one thing I could definitely say that would tell you why I got in. Matter of fact, I didn’t think I’d get in because of my income. I wrote my essays and short answers in a story form to make it more interesting to read, and I’ve shown a long term passion of business from a young age in response to my circumstances, which is what I would like to go into in the future. I’m also a first generation immigrant? (parents came here, I was born here)
[wanted to delete my post but apparently you can’t do that on this site?]
I was accepted but what did you guys get as part of the acceptance? I got an invitation to go to the conference and a nomination for all-expense-paid campus visits but I was wondering if anyone got the essay tutoring help thing?
I got an essay tutoring thing. I got a quest for excellence award so I’m assuming it came w the award
I know it says “acceptances” but this might be helpful to future QB applicants so here goes.

[] Job/Work Experience: internship last year, but that’s it. Can’t really hold a job due to some legitimate circumstances I explained in app.
[] Volunteer/Community service: Volunteer at local middle school, at local mosque, and with a local nonprofit
[] Summer Activities: Mostly volunteering. Doing an internship at a university this summer, which I mentioned.
[] Essays: 9/10. I honestly put a lot of effort into my essays. Everyone who gave me feedback loved them. I’m also a pretty strong writer.
[] Teacher Recommendations: 10/10 – I’m not the best in her class but she has had me for two years (freshman and junior) and absolutely adores me. She’s also the advisor of two of my most beloved clubs.

[] Extenuating Circumstances: Large family – seven kids total (I’m the eldest). Sister often hospitalized due to medical condition.
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM. My parents are both college grads but from schools in their (poor) native country, which sucks because even though they know nothing about the American college application process I still don’t count as first-gen.[/li][/ul]
Why you think you were accepted/not accepted and general comments: Income + assets are on the high side for QB. Still, we are technically low-income as defined by the Census Bureau. We live in a high-poverty area and the local school I go to offers very few resources for its (mostly minority) students, all of which I explained. I’ve heard of people with even higher incomes getting selected so honestly not sure. However, I will still apply to NCM. Congrats to everyone who was selected!

Why you think you were accepted/not accepted and general comments:
Because I didn’t have many positions in school activities, I focused on what I did outside of school and really explained its impact. I also focused on what I wanted to study in the future and how it related to my own experiences. I was lucky to get my March SAT scores in time to show improvement from a 1300-1400. I’m looking forward to applying next year for the match!
@laughinglol I received what you got, but yeah I got the essay tutoring. Not sure why some people get it and some people don’t?..
