Country (if international applicant):

School Type: small public high school in a safe, privileged town

Ethnicity: African American (50%), mother is Moroccan and of Gypsy descent

Gender: female

Income Bracket(mention if FA candidate): $50k-$55k (though dad has a legitimate gambling problem that has cost us many things)

Hooks (First Generation College, Minority,Learning Disability, etc.): First generation (parents did not even finish elementary/middle school), I guess I am a URM

Reflection:
Strengths:
None really. I just self study math because it’s fun. I guess it’s pretty interesting that I took 5 years of math in about 3 years.

Weaknesses: essays, income, lack of ECs, GPA

Why you think you were accepted/rejected: unlike so many other kids, I had no option to dive into extracurriculars. If I did not work, my family would be living on the streets. I can’t help it if having food and shelter is important. It’s more important than extracurriculars. During the holidays I had 40 hour weeks, which took a toll on my GPA.

What other Scholarships will you be applying for: none. I probably can’t get any of them with my stats.

General comments: being rejected did not really affect me. I guess at this point I am numb to rejection. Unfortunately, it’s just something that I know too well. I have other issues that outweigh being rejected by CPS. At this point, I think I’ll just go for the local community college since it’s the only affordable option.

Also I didn’t submit scores which made me feel pretty nervous. I feel as if I really have a chance at the National Match and I’m really looking forward to the college process!! Congratulations to all my fellow CP scholars and chin up to everyone who didn’t get the scholarship. I recently got waitlisted from a local university’s 6 week summer program that I was sure I had in the bag, but then got a 7 week internship at the local medical college that I thought I wasn’t gonna get, then CPS! So sometimes this doesn’t have as much rhyme or reason as we hope, keep pushing on!!

Weaknesses:
I didn’t submit my SAT/ACT scores. My essay honestly could have been better. There were a few awkward transitions.

Why you think you were accepted/rejected:
My transcript was the foundation and my essays probably added some personality and passion to my application.

What other Scholarships will you be applying for:
I’m not too sure. I’m just really excited and thankful that I received this scholarship!

**General Comments: **
I’m really happy. Congratulations to everyone who got the CPS! For those who didn’t, I know what rejection feels like. I got two summer rejection letters immediately before I was notified from Questbridge. It absolutely sucks and you feel hopeless. But don’t give up hope! According to the some QB finalists on facebook, many didn’t get CPS, yet still made it as finalists. My sister and her friend did not even apply to CPS, but were also finalists! And I honestly believe that some things happen so that better things can come. I was rejected from a summer program that I really wanted to go to, but ended up being able to find a better, more-fitting program because I was rejected.

Well, good luck to everyone in the future, and may you find happiness in whichever path you choose~
