Hi! So for the Questbridge essays, all of them are serious in tone. However, my common app essay is funny and most of my college supplements will be too probably. With that said, is that a bad thing? Or is that actually good because it shows two sides of me? Thanks.

If you are a finalist the schools will just see your Questbridge app, not the common, right? I know in the info sessions they say they like funny, if done right.

That’s fine!
And to SVMMom, no, most schools require both.

But from what I have read, they are forwarded your Questvridge app. How would they see your common?

My son was planning on using one of his QB essays for his common app. Does this mean he needs to write another essay?

^ SVMMom, No. You can reuse your QB Essay on your common app. It’s encouraged.

Kind of hijacking this thread, but my question is relevant to the original topic!

I wanted to use my biographical essay for the personal essay on the common app if I become a finalist, but it’s 780 words because I wrote it with the QB word count in mind. With the 500 word maximum on the common app, should I cut it down, or can I really just reuse it as is? I heard admissions officers are not fond of essay writers who think they can defy the restrictions.

If you’re going to reuse the biographical, cut it down. Even if it’s spectacular (which I’m sure it is!) a jump from 500 to 800 is pretty extreme.
