Questbridge National College Match 2011-2012

@scoutsmom
Oh the reason is that two of my ranked colleges (Yale and Princeton) require the common app, and my counsellor and teacher recommenders have no time to fill it out(They barely finished the QuestBridge one.) So I can only send the supplements to Brown as it does not require the common app. But the flowchart does say that I need to send materials to all ranked colleges, so I am worried now :(

Hey guys, I got a really important question .

Hypothetically, what if you become a finalist and go to whatever University with a full-ride from QB for a year, but something happens (a family emergency, you can’t stand the campus,etc) and you want to transfer? Is that allowed under the binding contract? Would I be allowed to transfer?

Thanks in advance. This just occurred to me now.

@TheJavaDuke. Yale and Princeton’s Match Requirements pages say the same thing about missing the Nov. 1 deadline:
“If you do not submit the required materials by November 1, 2011, Princeton may choose not to consider your application for the College Match.”

“If you do not submit the required materials by November 1, 2011, Yale may choose not to consider your application for the College Match.”

So I’d hope your app just wouldn’t get reviewed until regular decision. And I don’t know anything about your school or teachers, but it seems that over three weeks is a fair amount of time to do a second recommendation for a student; did they actually say they couldn’t do it?

Hey guys, does the counselor need to fax the Match Agreement Form or can I do it myself?

Wow, odd question. Why would you even ask this? But to answer your question, QB does not provide the money, each individual school does. So say if you got matched to Pomona and wanted to transfer to another school, school B has no obligation to provide you with funds.

I know some kids get to a school and it doesn’t “work” for some reason, but most kids are adaptable and things are fine.Why are you even asking such a question?

Thanks for the answer! And one other thing that I just realized – I need to have 2 teacher recommendations and 1 guidance counselor recommendation for the common app, even though they did my recommendations for the QB app? How does this work, do they write one letter and its used for all the schools I will rank?
And if so, the recommendations/supplements will be due Nov. 1, yes?
Thanks again, I’m just really confused. :)

@scoutsmom
My recommenders haven’t objected to filling out the recommendation outright, but I can say that they were pretty flustered after having completed my QuestBridge app (I am in a Canadian high school and this is the first my counsellor and teachers are doing this.) Also, the only tangible benefit I see from completing the common app is that I would not have to pay to submit my application to Princeton or Yale. I want to give my recommenders some rest before they start filling out my app again, so that they do a good job on it. Also, Brown offers need blind admission to internationals only through QuestBridge and the decision is binding, so I have a better chance with Brown than with Princeton or Yale. I just hope that not submitting the common app wont have a pernicious effect on my QuestBridge chances.

Thanks for your help so far!

Hi CCers,

I am applying to Yale through Questbridge. On QB and Yale websites, I was told to choose “Regular Decision” option on my common app. When I send in my transcripts/school reports, however, do I also put “Regular Decision”? Is the same applied to other schools that requests students choose “Regular Decision” although they will decide our fate by Dec 1st?

I think you are supposed to put regular decision for everything. I had to inform my guidance counselor that, even though I have to put down regular decision, they need to send the transcripts, school profiles, etc. to the college before November 1st.

a) if i become a non-finalist and im forwarding my QB app to schools that accept it in lieu of the common app, will i still be able to submit the common app with new essays too? which schools are going to read both? i’m asking because in retrospect, i don’t think my QB essays are good on their own. i actually think they suck now. oh well.

b) for schools that waive fees for non-finalists, how does that work? would i have to forward the QB app to get it? do i have to submit more paperwork?

i apologize if these questions are stupid.

Are there schools that waive fees for non-finalists? Is there a listing of them? If anyone knows the answer…let me know! (Please).

@Olipond. Check the links to the colleges on this page to see which automatically waive app fees for non-finalists [Regular Decision Requirements](QuestBridge)
For most that do, you check the “Other” box for fee waivers and note that you are a QB applicant. I know Emery and Amherst waive, for starters.

Thank you scoutsmom! Guess I am going to be marking a few of these off the list-e.g. UVa and Notre Dame. (No waiver, and w/out QB, UVa is pretty hopeless anyway)

What time did finalists get notified last year?

@choyphin

Just log onto your email at 11:59 tomorrow night :stuck_out_tongue: Finalist notifications are sent on the 21st.

I don’t think they’ll be ready at midnight…choyphin is on the east coast and that would only be 9 Pacific time where QB is. Idk about finalist notifications but I know that college prep notifications weren’t sent out until around 5 pm eastern time last spring … :0

Sent from my Vortex using CC App

darn it - i live on the east coast! no way i’m staying up til 3am. and i heard most finalists got their results around 3:30pm eastern time, but my sample size is on the east coast.

This is a thread for all the Questbridge Finalists to post their stats, and the universities they plan to apply to, or listed in their college match rankings as of the school year 2011-2012

I’m surprised this forum isn’t buzzing. I must be the only one that’s nervous lol.

There is a facebook page for applicants and mentors. It was wonderful during essay writing times (My D and everyone exchanged essays to read-it helped a great deal I think.) Good luck to everyone.!
