Questbridge National College Match 2011-2012

@ MindOnMars12

Definitely! A friend’s SAT’s scores were about 150+ away from his school’s avg. scores. His essay’s + recomm. WOW’d! them away.

Don’t let scores deter you. Essays/recomm. make all the difference. After reading that a male had ovaries without his knowledge in his body, it gives credence that anything can happen … HAVE FAITH!

Just received this in the mail today! I was hoping to send in my october SAT scores, since my previous two were only in the high 1900’s ): My ACT is only a 30, so I was planning to take the september test first as well. (Can I still send these to them even though I have previous scores?) I know the other parts are important as well, but… what should I do? D:

Under your test score section, of course put down your 30 ACT, and then put down the date of the one you are going to take. When you get your score back, email Questbridge with a screenshot of your score report.

I was wondering if applying to questbridge would be worth it for someone that has a household income over $60,000. I mean Questbridge states that a family of 4 with a household income of $60,000 is considered low income, while we are a family of 6 with an income around $70,000. I’m also a first generation Japanese/Korean Male student that is a permanent resident. My GPA is near 3.8-3.9 (weighted 4.3), ACT 32. I have solid EAs.
With all this in mind, would it be wiser for me to apply EA/ED or Reg. Decision to those partner colleges?

I’m pretty certain that I won’t get matched, but I want to become a finalist so that we don’t have to pay for application fees.

I know that most of the applicants are coming from even less fortunate backgrounds, and I want to know honestly if I’m sounding like a snob applying to this program…

Hi fellow CCers! I have a short question about the testings for QB.
The Match deadline is 9/30 but they said they will accept October SAT scores. I plan to take my SAT II in October so what will I put in for the SAT II scores in the Match application? Also SAT II scores don’t come out until October 20th so by the time I receive them, finalist decisions will be out. So will I send the scores to QB or just to the colleges I rank? Thanks a lot guys!

I’m pretty sure you just send the scores to the colleges you ranked if you’re selected as a Finalist.

Should I put “no” for the question about non-cash assets since it says not to list cars, computers, etc.?

I know on the questbridge app, in the section were it says to list your top five activities, it says not to use acronymns. However, a lot of the things I doo need to be shortened because the space they give us to explain what we do isn’t enough.

so what do you guys do to avoid this?

One more question: my sat scores aren’t in the ball park…should I still apply?

@scoutsmom: Yes, if I do not have an answer, I just fill in “res ipsa l” to the field and move on. Yes, I get that scary warning, but any part can be edited until you hit the magical “submit” button. Or so I hope and assume!
On the short answers there is the claim that you will get in three sentences…not me. 30 words or less is tough. A few I have no answer for at all.

Yeah, I only got around two sentences for each short answer. It felt too weird to just list stuff for any of them, but perhaps that’s just me.

QUESTION: If you become a finalist but aren’t matched, can you edit/improve your application before forwarding to RD?

@kimberlyy. No, Last year once you pushed the “submit” button, you could not edit the app again.

Can you use the same two teacher recommendations for the Questbridge and the Common app? Should you?

@heeeeela, Yes, you can; keep in mind some schools may have requirements about them (MIT requires one from a math/science teacher). “Should you” is a judgment call; but there’s nothing negative associated with using the same ones.

Hey guys I have a question: If we apply to questbridge can we still apply to the ucs if we didn’t get accepted?

You can apply to anybody that has rolling admissions during the match process (generally through Dec. 1st.) and if you are not matched (or you are matched to a non-binding school,) you are then free to apply to any school. The only restrictions are that you may NOT apply to any school EA, ED, or SCEA.

If you are matched on Dec. 1st, you must then immediately withdraw any applications you have already submitted.

Thanks scoutsmom,
I had another question:
I am retaking the October 1st SAT to hopefully get a better score–the one that I will submit to QB. But I haven’t taken my subject tests yet and after October 1st, the next available SAT date is November 5th, when I plan on taking two SAT IIs. But let’s say I get picked as a finalist and hence have to submit my ranked schools’ supplements by November 1st. Almost all the schools I am planning on ranking require at least 2 SAT IIs, but I won’t have even taken any by the time the apps are due. Sooo, what should I do? Should I submit the risky SAT score that I got the first time and then take advantage of the October 1st date to take SAT IIs? Or is there another suggestion? I hope I didn’t confuse anyone. Thanks.

^
Have you taken the ACT with writing? Most every school accepts the ACT in lieu of SAT II’s.

I think the OP was referring to subject level SAT’s which many colleges require in addition to the ACT/SAT.

@GA2012MOM,
No I haven’t  and I don’t think I’m prepared for the upcoming and only one that I can take before the app is due… Oh well, guess I can’t apply

kdogg, I know what the SAT II’s are, and most schools will take the ACT with writing in lieu of the SAT + the SAT II’s. My daughter was matched through QB to her #1 school a few years ago, and here is what her school requires, which is pretty much the norm.

My daughter took the SAT, 2 subject tests, and the ACT with writing and submitted them all, although she could of simply just submitted her ACT which was better and left the SAT and SAT II’s off her app.

edit: I randommly chose another QB school and checked their test requirements. Here is Yale.

GA2012MOM, I guess it depends on the schools the OP is applying to. I know Harvard (although not a QB school), MIT, Columbia, Caltech, Dartmouth, Williams, and Princeton require 2 subject level tests in addition to SAT or ACT with writing. NU recommends 2 subject level tests in addition to SAT/ACT with writing and it is required for applications to their HPME and ISP programs. Stanford recommends 2 subject level tests as well. Most engineering programs at QB schools are like that as well.

P.S. I know Yale and Brown don’t require them if you take the ACT with writing as my son applied to both of those as well.
