So I was thinking about applying for the questbridge scholarship senior year. I heard it's like ED, so ur bound to go. But, what if you get in more than one of your top schools? Do you for instance, necessarily have to go to the #1, or can u choose the school that u put down as #2? Also, would u recommend Questbridge for a Pakistani female whose total household income is about 17K? Thanks in advance! :D

Oh and apparently for Columbia, questbridge only allows u to apply RD. So would it be better to do questbridge and RD, or simply apply ED? Thanks.

hey i see people viewing, but no one replying...:(

bump 10char

The QuestBridge program is ED, but what makes it unique is that you apply to multiple schools ED. This seems to contradict logic, but that's where the idea of a 'match' comes in: you rank the schools by preference, and the highest school that you ranked that also ranked you is the one to which you're bound to go. You are only matched to one, though you may not get matched at all -- the majority of the students who go through the program are not matched. Of the 1600 or so finalists last year, only about 100 were matched.

QuestBridge has become an outlet through which colleges recruit URMs -- a very large percentage of those matched are URMs. If you look at the statistics, less than 10% of those matched were Asian. You fit into this group. Sadly, your chances of getting matched are very low. That, on top of the very long application (all your info, 16 short answers, 1 biographical essay, 2 long essays, etc.), might make the program not worthwhile, if all you want to do is Columbia ED. If you feel that way, I'd encourage you not to apply through QuestBridge and instead directly to Columbia ED. However, if you feel that you're okay with the long application (which also has to be filled out with the Common App for Columbia), then go for it.

thanks a lot for the info. I just don't want to end up making the wrong choice or anything as Columbia is my absolute #1 choice. So confused! Any other comments?

What do you mean, 'wrong choice'? If Columbia is your #1 choice, then go for it. However, if you're having doubts about ED in general, don't apply to a school ED unless you're completely sure you're fine being bound to go if accepted.

no what i meant was i don't want it to be something like i have the chance of being accepted ED, but due to the limited number of questbridge scholarships, not be "matched" with Columbia. Hopefully u get what I'm trying to say?
