Questiion about interviews

i got an interview last week. and i was jus wondering…do they call random ppl for interviews? or do they call EVERYONE for an interview at some point in the year? OR do they only ask for interviews to the applicants their interested in?

To my knowledge, all ED applicants get interviewed no matter what. Since its their first choice school, and there are only about 2500 kids in the applicant pool, they have the opportunity to pretty much get to everyone.

They try and get interviews for every applicant, but sometime this is impossible due to time constraints. If there is an alum in your area, you'll be contacted after the admissions office receives your application and forwards your contact information to the alum.

Most likely there is a volunteer chair for your area who assigns alumni to applicants; so the chair will get a bunch of applicants and divide them up to the alum interviewers; you might not get an interview or get a phone interview because there just aren't enough alums or because you don't live close enough to one. It won't hurt your chances if you aren't offered one.

oh i already had one last weekend. i was jus wondering. i kinda...screwed it up. does it hurt my chances now? my chances are already low as it is.

Not likely.

It must be everyone. Because they contacted me right after I submitted Part 1 of my application, and it's only Regular Decision. I met with a local alumni for a really casual interview at Starbucks for about an hour. And my test scores at the time were only 1370/2060 SAT and 30 ACT, so I doubt they picked me because they were overly interested haha.
It probably depends on how active the local alumni are and how many interested applicants there are in the area.

arslankhan: In my experience, the only way an alumni interview can actually hurt you is if you're blatantly rude to the interviewer. My friend interviews for Brown and she had a candidate blow her off once, then when she rescheduled, showed up very late and blamed her for picking a place where he couldn't find a parking spot. She called the admissions office and demanded he be rejected. THAT's "screwing it up."

so have we established whether i should or shouldn't be worried if i haven't gotten a call about an interview yet? i applied early decision, and i haven't heard anything. could location be an issue? i'm in texas, and i'm sure that there aren't a ton of alumni in my area...then there's the the possibility that i didn't recognize the number, and therefore didn't answer my phone....crraappp...

your interviewer definitely would have left a message i'm sure... try searching on brown's website: brown clubs.... then see if there's a local alumni club in your area. if there is, and you still haven't been contacted for an alumni interview, i would call admissions. i know that the interviewers have to get in their reviews on interviews by december 1.
