Question 75,76 on Fafsa

Our income was significantly lower in 2019 than it was in 2018 and we qualified for snap and reduced lunches. However I used my 2018 tax info as required on our fafsa for our daughter. The fields for snap and reduced lunches was prefilled and I can’t change it. What can I do change this field??

It’s not clear what you mean by “prefilled.” Do you mean that the SNAP and Free or Reduced Price School Lunch selections were already shaded in to indicate that those benefits were received?

You say that you qualified for SNAP and reduced price school lunches in 2019 because your income was significantly lower in 2019 than it was in 2018. The FAFSA questions ask if the student, the student’s parents, or anyone in the parents’ household received either of these benefits in 2018 or 2019. Simply qualifying is not the same thing as receiving.

The snap and free or reduced questions were shaded and blank and the “none of the above” choice was checked. I can’t change this answer on fafsa and yes we qualified and received these benefits in 2019.

In this case I think you need to log in to fafsa.gov after the inital submission and acceptace of FAFSA and try to make an online correction. If that doesn’t work, I suggest that you contact FAFSA customer service.

Yes no online correction can be made I will call Fafsa

Did you already link your tax return to the FAFSA with the data retrieval tool? One of the qualifiers for auto zero EFC or simplified needs is whether you filed schedule 1 with your 2018 1040 tax return. Did you answer that question with no?

Or was your 2018 income above $49,999? Then the special conditions don’t apply.

If previous responses make a question irrelevant to the EFC formula, skip logic will eliminate the question for you … and you won’t have the option to answer it. I agree that your income was most likely too high to trigger the question. Even if you did qualify for free/reduced lunch, that fact most likely has no bearing on your EFC due to income.
