Question a/b UT-Austin transfer

I'm applying to UT-Austin and am trying to submit my application at the best time. I've looked everywhere on their website for how long an admitted applicant has to respond to the decision, but I can't find it. Seeing as UT is my ONLY safety, I would hate to submit my app early and have to respond in like 2 weeks...only to turn down their offer and possibly be rejected at every other school I apply to! At the same time, the site says that people can submit their app up to a year in advance and will likely receive their decision earlier if they are "stand-out applicants." Anybody aware of how long you get to respond...

And one other thing. I know I'll probably be considered an awful person, but would it be really bad to, if accepted, pay the $200 enrollment deposit just to hold your spot. I know you can't get that money back obviously, but if you didn't know the decisions from your other schools and had to give UT a response now, would it be ok to just say "yes" and pay the deposit, even if you may not attend if accepted to a better school?

paying the $200 deposit is fine if you want to secure your spot and you don't hear back from your other schools before the deadline

I think it's fine as long as you don't deposit at more than 1 school

That's really good to hear...so just wondering, if I end up getting accepted somewhere else and wanting to go there, how do I go about informing UT? Just let them know that I've decided to go somewhere else, or just not say anything at all?

no you won't be a horrible person... i deposited at ucsd (100) but once i heard from usc i just wrote them a nice email saying i won't be attending. its not binding or anything.

at a school that big, you don't really have to notify, not registering for classes will be sufficient notification; at iu when i withdrew there was no formal withdrawal process, they just told me not to register for classes and that was it
