Question about Admission to Brown?

Does anyone know when deferred applicants should have all of their updates (like new awards, extracurriculars, etc…) submited? I heard that the admissions begins to go through deferred applicants in early march…is this correct? Also, does anyone have any idea on the average number of students who are accepted after being deferred early admission? Is the 20% increase in ED applications this year liable to affect the number admitted after deferral?

Also…I am sending an updated letter to Brown with new accomplishments, etc. Well, there is a major research paper for my AP english class that i got back this week and got a 100% about “adopting an open curriculum.” Do you think it would be a good idea to send this graded paper with the teachers comments? I obviously don’t want to annoy admissions with too many supplemental materials…but i feel as though submitting a good and major senior writing piece would show my interest in open curriculum (which brown is famous for)…and display an example of my academic writing. Do you think admissions would be annoyed if i submitted this?? I really have this strong desire to submit it as its an accomplishment and something I am proud of!

I am also getting a recommendation from a state senator (a cousin of mine) who has been reviewing a bill that I wrote last semester. Is this a good idea since he is involved in a major project that I have been working on?

Thanks!

Admit rates for deferred ED are approx. the same as the rate for regular applicants. I don’t see the harm in sending a graded paper though they do have an overextended admissions staff. Worst off they don’t read it and best circumstance they really enjoy the paper! Also it couldn’t help mentioning you came up with a legislative document.

So its still around 13-14% admit rate for the deferred pole? Okay…I will take your advice and most likely send the paper - i just wasn’t sure if I was sending in too many extra materials…and the last thing I want to do is annoy the admissions staff. I mentioned the bill I wrote (at the time i was still working on it) in the addit. info section on the common app…and I plan on updating Brown on this, too. Plus I think the recommendation would help.

Thanks for your reply.

*pool

…

I think the most important thing you can and should say in your letter is that Brown is still your first choice and you will attend if accepted, they like that for their yield. And unfortunately I was also deferred and remember reading in the letter that acceptance rates for RD and deferred ED are roughly the same. Due to a 21% increase in applicants we are looking at about a 9% acceptance rate, yikes!

I wouldn’t bank on any supplements helping.
