Well, next year I'm taking AP Bio, but the teacher told me that Anatomy/Physiology is highly recommended or I am not passing the AP exam in May of 2011. Do you really need that class to get a 5 on the exam. Also the textbook that we are going to use is from Campbell, edition 7. Any insights about someone that took AP Bio, but did not take Anatomy/Physiology and still passed the exam with a 4 or a 5. Thank You!

Watch a porno or House every night, I am sure you can get a 5!

I’m sure the majority of bio takers haven’t taken anatomy. I certainly hadn’t and I don’t really remember there being much, or any, human anatomy on the test. Campbell 7th edition is a standard bio textbook and you can definitely get a 4/5 without having anatomy/physio beforehand.

Oh please to your teacher. Anatomy is one of the lightest, easiest units in AP Bio in terms of depth. Self-study it through Barrons/PR throughout the year and you’ll be just fine.

I agree with An0maly and alittlemonster; you definitely don’t need to take an anatomy/physiology class to do well on the AP Bio exam. The anatomy/physiology that’s tested on the AP exam is very basic, and can be easily self-studied.

I hadn’t taken Anatomy and Physiology although my teacher recommended that everyone who is planning on taking AP Biology should take it. But I understood her reasoning because the class normally doesn’t make to the Anatomy and Physiology section of the book (time constraints). I was pretty cognizant of that, so I started self-studying the sections ahead of time and that paid off really well.

It’s definitely not easy because there are times where you feel like if you had taken Anatomy, you probably cut down a lot of study time and focus on other things. It can be a lot of material (although I went a little overboard in my studying), but it’s doable. I scored on a 5 on her mock AP and I was pleased.

my teacher didn’t teach anatomy and gave us a packet of it a couple weeks before the exam. :(

I think the majority of people who take AP bio haven’t taken Anatomy/Physiology as a separate class. It’s a unit in AP bio anyway and it’s not that important, you can just read it on your own and it’s pretty easy. I’ve already started studying for the 2011 exam and that was one of the easiest and least important parts.

Is anatomy in Cliffnotes? I don’t remember learning it and I thought I got a 5 on the exam.

I never took Anatomy as a separate class, though I did cover most anatomy in freshman biology and my teacher taught us the more important parts of the body during the second quarter. I taught myself things like the nervous system and muscle system, and reviewed other anatomy from Barron’s, and got a 5 on every practice AP I took, including ones released by the CB. The 2010 Bio exam definitely did NOT have much anatomy on it; just buy a prep book and review throughout the year, do well in the course, and cram the month or so beforehand, and you’ll do fine on the AP.

Good Luck with AP Bio next Year! You’ll need it. It’s a tough class.
