Hello everyone. I am going to attend UMD in Fall 2015 and I’m in Smith Business School. I was looking at the AP credit list for Maryland ( http://www.transfercredit.umd.edu/APGenEd.pdf ) and I am confused about the categories. I’m currently planning on taking the AP exam in Latin, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and English Literature. For the Latin and Lit exam the category is none. My question is, will those credits be relevant and matter to graduating, or would it be a waste of money to take the exam? I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I am confused.
If you are prepared for the exams, then why not take them. The credit will appear on your transcript and count toward academic standing (used for registration priority order). Other than the fee, you have nothing to lose.
Thank you for the reply. I feel I will be well prepared but unless I’m missing something, if the credits don’t count towards graduation then all taking the exam accomplishes is spending the registration fee correct?
if you get a 5 on the AP exam, your Latin credits could count as an elective, not as a GEN ED course.
