question about applying: ED, EA, or RD?

Okay here's a hypothetical situation...

I apply to, let's say, Macalester ED-- I get rejected. While I applied ED to Macalester, I also sent out 8 EA applications, and I got accepted into the majority of those schools. At this point, would there sufficient time to still apply RD, to see where I can get in, and then choose between a EA vs RD, or is there not enough time to do this before a EA deposit is due?

I know it may sound confusing, but this is something that's been bugging me for a while! lol.

Your EA applications would most likely be due around the same time that you sent out your ED application. Say you heard back by the 15th of December, you'd still have 17 days to apply to RD schools. Or you could work on you RD applications during the waiting period to get a jump start in case you need to move to plan B.

EA deposits are due on May 1, just as RD deposits are. EA is not binding. You can still apply RD.

You may want to have your RD applications done and ready to send off before the ED/EA reply date, though, just in case. You don't have to send them until you hear back, but it's a whole lot easier just to push a button saying "Submit" than it is to do the applications from scratch, particularly if the responses from your ED/EA schools are not what you wanted to hear.
