Question about applying & year 12 grades?

I’m a US high school student applying to UBC undergrad this year but there was one thing I didn’t really understand as to how admissions work.

I know that in Canada, the most important grades are the ones that are earned in first semester of 12th grade, but I’d apply to UBC in the winter when those grades aren’t finished yet, so how do they take those grades into consideration? Do they just hold off looking at your application until they get your first semester grades? Because that would mean waiting until February or so for my school, yet applications are due in January.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks! :D

it works differenly for canadians v.s. americans. They use an American like process for america, but your extra carriculars aren’t as important. Your GPA, test scores, and what courses you took are.
