Question about appropriate email address

Hi everyone,

I will be graduating soon and I have a question about something that I am a bit unsure of. Once I graduate, I plan to stop using my school assigned email address and I already have two email address options that I can use for a job search. One is my first name, middle initial, last name @gmail.com and the other is my first name and last name @outlook.com. I figured either of those two would be appropriate for a job search. For my current personal use, I use an email address that is my first name, last initial, and three random numbers.

If my name were Jane G. Doe, my email addresses look like:

janegdoe@gmail.com
janedoe@outlook.com
janed123@gmail.com

My question is: What type of email address should I use to give to professors, colleagues, and friends/classmates who want to keep in touch? (In other words, for purposes that may be somewhat professional but perhaps not always). Should Iuse something like my first name, last name and 3 numbers (janedoe123@gmail.com) or my first initial, last name and 4 numbers (jdoe1234@gmail.com). [Those are the usernames I could get]. I know that I could use the same email address that I use for my job search and other professional purposes but, I like to keep things separate and organized. Therefore, I'd be willing to use another email address. What format, for the username, do you guys think is best?

Thanks!

My son use first initial, middle initial, and last name both in college and after graduation.
I use first initial and last name.

I think the shorter is the better. People will not make mistake in typing.

I don’t like the number at the end. I prefer to subsitute it with a word.

I get mail from a lot of college students. You’re not really asking about that, but the principle is the name. I get a ton of mail from people I don’t know. Being able to organize my inbox with reference to last names helps A LOT. I couldn’t care less about middle initials.

To be completely honest, all three of your email addresses are professional, so you could use any of them. It won’t matter. You can use your initials and numbers, a combination of names, initials and numbers, etc. First name + last name + a couple of numbers is probably the most easily recognizable. Some people use middle initials because their first + last is already taken.
