Hi, what would be a good email address to use for college admissions?

firstnamelastname@yourprovider.whateveryourprovideruses

How about FirstnameLastname08?

is the 08 okay? because they wont give me just firstlast because its been taken.

I think as long as it doesn't sound silly or juvenile you are fine, there are only so many untaken choices on the big mail provider namespaces. My daughter has a dedicated address for college stuff on gmail. If you assume her initials were xyz the address is xyzcoll@gmail.com A short address is good also as you will be writing it on interest postcards and you want it something you can write neatly on the appropriate lines. Also be aware of letters and numbers which could be misinterpretted, especially if you use a mix of both.

I seriously doubt this is something you need to worry about.

You people are too paranoid as crazy.

as long as it's not something like sexgod you'll be fine

Some form of an indicator to your name would work, if not exactly "firstnamelastname". Many people filter or skim their email only based on addresses, so you'd want them to know that its you without having to see your signature. FirstInitialLastName or FirstNameLastInitial would work. Even some sort of abbreviation of your name would be better than IlovepinkxOxOx1337

mine is lastname.firstname@gmail.. It's strictly for College/Job stuff.. I then still have my cute sign name for my normal everyday email..

I have exactly what Kayleigh does...firstname.lastname@gmail.com. Only use it for college application purposes.

Sounding more professional always helps, right?

A college rep recommended getting an email address that you'll use solely for college apps and inquiries. The recommended address was joesmithtx@provider. So, it was firstlaststate as the first part. This leaves no question as to the identity. She advised against addresses like hotstud@provider

as long as its not profane, its fine.

Yeah, I do the firstname.lastname@gmail.com too. I have that forward to my regular email account so that I don't have to check more than one, and I also have it set so that when I write a response to any email it will automatically respond from the email address to which the email was sent. So, for example, if a college emails my first.last account and I want to email them back I don't have to worry about remembering to change which email I send it out from. Just a little advice that makes things a heck of a lot more convenient.
