Question about average GPA's of Colleges

Say on a site it lists a universities average GPA, what is it out of 5 or what? Because at my school the highest unweighted possible GPA is a 4.33. Get what I'm saying or should I elaborate more?

They usually show unweighted GPAs on a 4.0 scale. So, for example, if you were to apply they'd recalculate your GPA and all your 4.33s would become 4.0s... then that recalculated GPA would be used to find the average for admitted students.

it's usually on a 4.0 scale. If the highest unweighted is a 4.33 it just means A+ is more than an A. Schools will recalculate your gpa anyway

ahhh are you serious. god dammit bad news for me.

no not really. unless you have a lot of A+'s

also say on a site the average GPA is a 3.5, does that mean in order to get admitted you should have a GPA right around there? And I don't have any A+'s so i'm screwed.

Keep in mind that by definition, 50% of accepted students have a GPA that's below the average. If your dream school's average is a 3.5 and you have a 3.3, you still have a chance. But that does mean that you should be viewing it as a reach, realistically, rather than a match.
