Hi, We were just paying our tuition on vip today, we were on teh financial page where it shows all the fees (such as technology fee, housing fee, postbox fee, etc) I saw my carolina cash fee and it was like around 550$, Does this 550$ go to my carolina card? Currently my carolina card is at 0$ because I wasn't sure. So why is my carolina cash fee set at 550$? Is there a reasoning behind it? is it to pay for books?

Also, for books, I know on vip in the academic section, at the bottom where you click on university bookstore and there's a link that leads you too the usc bookstore where all of your course books are, do we reserve the books on that website? on orientation day back in june, my dad filled out this textbook reservation form and turned it in, so do we just wait till moving day to get our textbooks from teh bookstore? will they have already been reserved even if we didn't reserve them on the site aforementioned?

I am just soo confused and sorry for the paragraphs..lol!

you can set the carolina cash for any amount you want on VIP.Maybe thats their estimate for a semesters worth of books.you can also pay for books any way you want,it doesnt have to be through carolina cash..they take checks, regular credit cards, etc. There are also other places to buy books right off campus or online, but that may be confusing for a new freshman (wait till next semester lol)
look at Greenville's threads here about books.she called the bookstore and got answers about when the order will show up based on when you reserved.
Your order should be packed and ready for you on move in day,but you can go the day after too (or anytime during welcome week)theres no rule saying you have to show up that day......

Hope I can help. I had the same concern. My DD's vip did not mention books, but I spoke to a really nice young lady who "checked the back" and did see my daughter's books with her name - maybe try that? Good luck!

sp1212,
You are not alone! After several phone calls and some helpful explanations, I think I understand a little bit better. The bookstore and Carolina Card people told me that once your book order is processed, they go ahead and deduct that from your Carolina Card. I 'm guessing that the option that you chose to pay for your books during orientation on the paper your dad filled out was to charge your books to your card. The Carolina Card office told me specifically that the 92 negative line means that your order has been processed, and you currently show a negative balance, because that book price will be deducted from your card. Also, they said that if, at the time your order is processed, there is not enough money on your card to pay for your books, the book fee will be added to your tuition bill. That would be why the $550 is showing up under the financial tab along with the technology fee - because it is now a fee that has been added to your bill. Now, I could very well be confused, but that is how I understand it at this point.
Now, don't take this as the gospel truth, but if I understand things, this would mean that when your tuition is paid, that should take care of the negative balance, but then you won't have any "spending money" on your Carolina Card unless you make a deposit on it, because your deposit would then be zero.
You do NOT want to order the books online, or you will pay for them again! You can either reserve them at orientation (which your dad apparently did) or online, but you don't want to do both.
S and I were quite confused about this whole issue. But the Carolina Card office person was extremely helpful. I'm sure she could answer any questions you still have. I think her name was Amanda.

glad you saw this Greenville and was able to clarify it for him!
Big hint for next semester...its really not neccessary to reserve the books in advance!

I agree, cathymee! Might be a whole lot simpler to just go in a buy the books during Welcome Week, or get them online.
Son's meal plan showed up today on his Carolina Card, so it looks like everything is taken care of.
Now if we can just get all this stuff packed.............
