Question about Brown University

Hi! Im thinking of applying for ED for Brown University. Its my dream to go there.
Does anyone know if Brown recalculates GPA? (Like UW and only counting core academic subjects)?

I do not know, but someone in the Brown forum may. Whatever they calculate internally, they will certainly look at everything. There is also a Brown talk by admission officers on youtube that talks about the admission process.

I’m going to guess no based on the following from the FAQ:

https://www.brown.edu/admission/undergraduate/ask?faq_category=1
And you’ll notice there is a place to submit a question on that page.

My understanding is that your GPA is not recalculated. Admissions looks at your entire transcript – the courses you took, the grades you got, your rank (if it exists), your school profile.

The athletic teams use a formula that melds GPA and test scores; otherwise, no.

Not entirely correct.

“The Academic Index (AI) involves four computations: (1) the individual applicant, (2) the entire campus, (3) each team, and (4) all recruited athletes. Every applicant to every Ivy League institution is assigned an AI in order to insure close academic compatibility among admitted athletes and non-athletes in each freshman class and at every Ivy League college.”

(If anyone wants a citation, let me know)

The formula is calculated for all matriculants, not just athletes. Whether it has any impact on admissions decisions for non-athletes, I do not know.

In any event, getting back to the OP’s question, there is no recalculation of GPA in this formula…
