Average GPA for BROWN APPLICANTS/GPA Cut Off

Anyone know what the average GPA of admitted Brown applicants is? IS 3.8UW considered low? HELP MEE my quarter grades suck

-sorry I misspelled the title for the other thread

I doubt there is an average GPA. Some schools weight, others don't. Some schools have A,B,C,D grades, others out of 100. Some give A+ a 4.3, others give A+ a 4. And some schools have grading systems where the highest grade is a 5, or a 6, or a 7. Brown does not recalculate applicants GPAs.

How is a 3.8 in your school? That's what counts.

rank is more important than GPA and the standard is at least top 10%

what do you think was the lowest GPA of any applicant to be admitted into brown?

I seriously doubt anyone has ever kept track of that.

of course someones kept track! it's probably important to brown. if they admitted someone with a 3.5, i'm sure they were outstanding in other areas and had some crazy hook or EC.

3.5? A 3.5 is excellent in some competitive high schools.

I think a 3.5 is exactly a 90% average. I have a 3.72 average and it's like a 92.8 or something. 3.8 is excellent in my opinion, as long as you have not taken underwater basket weaving and tiddlywinks and you have at least 3 AP's or so and the rest mostly honors.

Fireandrain- where did you hear that they did not recalculate applicants GPA? I'm pretty sure every college does, or there would be no real objective way to comparatively see student's GPA if one had a 5.5 on a 6 point scale and the other had a 3.6 on a 4 point scale etc., etc. I was told multiple times that MOST colleges recalculate your GPA on a standard 4.0 scale, adding a pre-determined weight to AP and Honors classes.

most high schools don't do exact percentages or + and -

and Brown doesn't even do + and -

a 3.667 is a 90-93%, aka a-

GLMERS, while I have never directly asked admissions if it recalculates GPA, I've spoken with admissions officers and sat through simulations of the admissions process, and never once in the last 3 decades have I heard anyone say that Brown recalculates GPA or seen any evidence that it does. Admissions can look at a transcript and figure out what it wants to know without doing any recalculation.

Every college handles admissions differently. Just because some schools recalculate doesn't mean every college does.

For example: how fair is it to "add a predetermined weight for AP and honors" for kids who go to small rural or inner city high schools with few AP classes? Brown looks at the school profile, looks at the grades on your transcript, reads what the guidance counselor writes, and is able to figure out how you did in HS. It's not rocket science.

And I'll stand by my original statement that I am sure no one in Brown admissions keeps a record of the "lowest GPA ever." Or the lowest SAT ever. The school was founded in 1764 -- who knows what applicants' GPAs were 244 years ago -- or even 50 years ago?

thanks guys! well, just pray I'll get to maintain my GPA this semester bcos Junior year is hard as balls
