Question about career choice (Medical Field vs Patent Attorney - high paying law job- )

Hey everyone, if you do happen to reply to this thread I thank you very much in advance!

Okay, so basically I am wondering whether I should pursue a job in the medical field or go after the job of a Patent Attorney or something else that pays high in the law field. For a long time I have always wanted to be a doctor, but now I see that I might have been a bit naive as I realize the tribulations of passing the MCAT, getting into a good medical school, 4 years where your life is basically revolved around medicine and you do not have time to converse in any social activities or anything. Then you get into a residency program where you have to work for 3 years at practically minimum wage while learning from doctors. I see the path for medicine as a very daunting one, even though I highly enjoy what is in it. I am really scared by the debt that I will have accumulated after all my education, the thought of losing motivation in the job of medicine (I see thousands of articles everyday of doctors who were very passionate about it but lost motivation), and the lack of social time spent with loved ones as well as a decreasing pay for doctors in America.

On the other hand, the path to becoming a patent attorney ( i have done a lot of research and find the path of law and patents very interesting ) seems to require the same amount of work, just less than a medical school. Passing the LSAT and law school, but no more after that. I am just wondering whether this job could pay a good amount of money where I can be stable in the future and if I can find jobs (availability in future). Are there any other jobs in the law field that bring in a lot of money? I am very interested in anything that revolves around law.

I am basically torn between a medical career or something along the lines of a patent attorney. I know you guys cannot make the decision for me but can you guys offer some advice on which path I should pick ( i enjoy both on equal scales ). I perform better in my english/political classes in high school right now but am also receiving high scores in my science math classes right now.

I am looking for a job that can provide me with a lot of money and where I can be stable. A job in medicine calls for an arduous journey that may end worse than imaginable and a job in law I am not sure of the possibilities and whether I can be stable.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, I am very appreciative to have any insight.

Sorry if I posted in the wrong place! I do not post frequently on Collegeconfidential about this kind of stuff!!!

The great thing is that you don’t need to decide right now. You can take some of the pre-req classes in both areas during your freshman year, and see which ones you like best. I will say that law is not nearly as stable a profession as you might think. You need to get into a top tier law school to be really employable and make a lot of money, and unemployment among other law school grads is pretty high

Oh I see, thank you so much for replying, I sincerely appreciate it. Would you say that medicine would be a good option even with the long path it takes to become a doctor?
