Question about career

ok so I'm a bit confused about training/qualifications for an Optometrist or any doctor in general..

my major is undecided right now but im trying to narrow my interests. For an Optometrist I looked up qualifications and training and I found it to be 4 years for a bachelors degree then 4 years at a school of optometry to earn my doctorate (someone confirm this?). Of course i'll be in MT.sac for 2 years so that totals to 10 years of school total.

does this sound about right? Does it matter what field or college I have my bachelors degree in or I shouldn't worry about that right now?

i dont know much about optometry but if u want to be a dr…like pediatrician, psychiatrist, etc you will need to go through pre-med and it really doesnt matter what major your in, but most ppl tend to focus on bio/biochem/chem/psych or anything science orientated. and most med schools will pretty much want a science/medical major of some sort.

and actually i believe u calculated your own time line wrong…4 years for a BA is for someone who did NOT transfer. so technically after mtsac you will be done with 2 years already with a total of 8 if your information is correct.

when it comes to pre-med you will have too…start taking pre-med courses, get your BA, apply to med school, spend 4 years in med school, then another 1-2 years in uhh forgot the word for it…but basically working under someone kind of like an internship.

so total of about 10 years before you can finally practice on your own, i think.
but as for optometry im not 100 percent sure :(

Oh so what you’re saying is after my 2 years in SAC, it’ll only take 2 more years for my bachelors?

and I think thats residency you’re talking about for about 1-2 years during the end
