Question about choosing a track

Hey guys! This may be a really dumb question, but how do tracks work?

To be more specific, this is my situation:

I'm applying to the School of Engineering for CS as well as for the Cornelius scholarship, which means I need to write something up on why I want to do CS.
I am interested in both the premed and financial engineering tracks for CS and would like to mention one in my essay. I come from a very strong biology background so it would be convenient for me to talk about going CS-premed. However, I'm just worried that I may have a change of heart, and that specifying a track in the essay will tie me down to something I don't want to do (if I were to be accepted anyway lol).
How do you even officially pick a track anyway?!

tldr;
Do I only need to worry about getting accepted as a CS major or does track (if I specify in an essay) actually matter?

Thanks in advance!

I’d just focus on writing a top-notch essay that highlights your passion and then figure everything else out if your accepted. I’d say the percentage of people who come in knowing exactly what they want to do and sticking with it all four years is small (although higher for eng. majors I’d imagine). You can switch your major/track whenever you want, so don’t let that influence what you write about.

Don’t worry about getting tied down as Vandy3023 said. You will not be forced to follow the major or track you write about - in the school of engineering, we do not formally select our majors until the end of freshmen year. You have ample opportunity to explore different fields and eventually hone in on your major.

You only declare your majors/minors. Your “track” is totally up to you and isn’t declared. Bring “pre-med” just means you take all the courses required for med school. You don’t declare it or get it on a piece of paper or anything.
