If your transcript says something like "26/260 students" will colleges like Harvard or Yale consider this good as top 10% which I've heard is sort of a requirement to be accepted in schools like this?

Or will they view it as 26th is not top ten so its no good... but then again, there are other transcripts which would say "top x%" and its completely different.

Guidance counselors have to fill out a form that mentions the top GPA and how you fall within the class, which negates the deception of putting top 10%, rather than actual rank, to hide the fact that you're in the lower top 10%.

azsxdc, just check on the Harvard EA 2010. There's about 22 pages, and out of the 6 I saw, there were about 3-5 ppl at a 40 rank. That may not seems a lot, buts its more than imagine. And those are only the ppl that use this forum.

that would be great if she would agree to do that. Anyways, until then I should probably just focus on improving it as much as I can. Thanks for the input everyone!

windslicer is saying that they'll know you're the bottom of the top 10% anyways because the guidance counselor will give the top 10% GPA range and see your GPA is the last one in the range.

they HAVE to put the range? and even if they do, its all perception no? Alot of people put top ten % and yet regardless of whether they are top or bottom, it LOOKS better then 26/260.

there are a lot of unfair things in the college admissions process ... listing your percent as opposed to your actual rank ... Well that doesn't strike me as unfair compared to some of the other things out there
