Question about Class Rank.

For UT-Admissions how much does class rank matter for OOS students? I'm ranked 76/260 rite now at a very competitive public high school, but the reason i'm so low is due to a medical reason explained in the counselor's rec letter. My other stats are a 3.8 UW GPA hopefully a 1480+SAT (retook in Oct very confident) and good ECs and excellent recs. Will my rank hurt my chances alot, for my intended major, Business and if i can Business Honors? Thanks!

u wont get into business honors... or u have a VERY slim chance anyways. they take 100 people every year and pretty much all are in top 5%. but u shud have a good chance at business

You can always get into business honors after your first year.

for business honors it will definitely hurt, but if you can pull a 1480 on the SAT you should get into business pretty easily.

no OP is out of state which makes it alot tougher and he's not ne where near the median of top 2.5% class rank in business honors. idk how much SAT scores will help but i guess applying cant hurt. Just remember UT is a pretty class rank centered school so unless u have another hook in terms of business as in starting ur own profitable business idk if ull get in, but im not discouraging u from tryin so i hope u luck.

sorry but no chance at ut honors biz

Look at it this way - UT is required to accept any in-state student in the top 10%, no matter what their test scores. In order to stay reasonably competitive with other universities, they probably want to make up that test score deficiency with OOS applicants.

I actually did start my own business during 8th grade and continued up until end of junior year. Never thought it would be considered a hook though. (Business was building computers and selling.)

And to fireflyscout good way of putting admissions for UT : )

I would definitely recommend applying to BHP, but if you don't get in, you can always try again as a sophomore admit.

Leadership, which certainly includes starting a business, is one of the main things that BHP looks for in its admitted students, so it's definitely a big plus.

Also, as far as I know, getting into BHP has nothing to do with your residency status. Yes, all BHP students must first get into the university, but if you get into BHP, there shouldn't be any difficulty getting into UT. (And in regards to SAT scores, yours are significantly higher than the mid-1300s that is the average for OOS students.)

Don't tell people straight up they won't get into something, what do you know? I go here and I've met the people in business honors, and you are right there are plenty of people, most of them, that were top 5% etc. but then again a good friend I have was top 13% in Texas and he got into it, so you really never know.

Anyways as to the OP, you will most likely get in, I am not 100% sure how the OOS stuff all works out, but you look fine, and you will most likely get into business as well.
