I have been looking through the list of clubs (http://www.ic.sunysb.edu/Clubs/) and almost all of the links lead to dead websites or websites that mention the meeting dates in 2006 or earlier.

Clubs I'm interested in are Amnesty International, College Democrats, Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance, NYPIRG and the Pre-Law Society. I have looked through Facebook and sunysb.edu and have found hardly any information from 2009/2010.

How do I find out if these clubs are active? Do you have any suggestions on clubs (esp. involving human rights/law/politics) that ARE active and well established?

I'm not one of those people who come on here and complain about every tiny thing wrong with Stony Brook, but it's really frustrating and completely uninviting to new students to have no or extremely outdated information on clubs.

That entire system is completely outdated.

You are better off visiting the Student Activities/Student Life site and office and/or the numerous involvement fairs to get a better sampling of what’s available. You’ll probably receive more information on these things as the first semester starts.

Out of your list, I can say all are probably active. Not all will have sites on the IC system.

For example, in terms of emergency response, there’s SBVAC (volunteer EMS) and C-CERT (campus emergency response team) neither of which host their sites on the IC system.

As DJStony said, Facebook and the Student Activities site are a lot more helpful for stuff like this than the IC website:

[StonyDems (Stony Brook College Democrats) | Facebook](<a href=“Facebook Public Group | Facebook”>Facebook Public Group | Facebook)

[SBU Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance | Facebook](<a href=“Facebook Public Group | Facebook”>Facebook Public Group | Facebook)

[NYPIRG Stony Brook | Facebook](Facebook)

Pre-Law is also active; not sure about Amnesty International.

Other groups you might be interested in: Social Justice Alliance ([Social Justice Alliance: Announcements | Facebook](<a href=“Facebook Public Group | Facebook”>Facebook Public Group | Facebook)), LGBTA ([Stony Brook LGBTA | Facebook](<a href=“Facebook Public Group | Facebook”>Facebook Public Group | Facebook)), Think Magazine ([THiNK Magazine](http://thinksb.com/))

Not to worry, there’ll be an involvement fair within the first few weeks of the semester where you can track down all the clubs you’re interested in.
