"How I got High"
hahah it's "How High"

"from what i've heard (since i only ever finished columbia's app, i wouldnt know, but i had heard from friends) UChicago's essay topics are very quirky and unique"

Yep. Back when I wrote those essays in high school, it was unbelievable what I was spewing out onto the app (think prancing ponies). I got waitlisted, for the win.

wow ok I guess I'll tame my UChicago essay (it's super personal) down for Columbia. But thre is no way that I am writing aother essay. Between the commonapp essay, Yale, Princeton, and Upenn supp. essays, and UCHicago's essay. I am essayed out. There are so may ways that I can "show who I am"

I sometimes feel like I'm the only person on CC who doesn't want to apply to UChicago.

I didn't want to apply to UChicago and I didn't.

=) okay now I'm happier

shraf, how would they know you used the same essay for columbia to chicago. Unleess you write something at the end like

"and thats why I want to study economics at Columbia" in a Uchicago application

i didnt say that u chicago would know that you used the columbia essay for their application but columbia might know that you used the chicago essay for the columbia app because chicago asks for strange/quirky things. The same goes for other quirky or pointed topics that other colleges ask for...if you use the same essay for columbia they will know and it will reflect very badly on you.

Do they call schools or something. If they do I think they are just feening. I highly doubt it will put a black mark on your application "Especially" if thats you!. I mean as long as you're expressing who you are and you keep everything "Authentic" then why should tehy have a problem with that. Its the same as using Amherst supplemental questions for the common application question for other schools

^For the most part you can re-use your personal statement because the prompts are so generic.

But submitting an essay to Brown that starts with 'I love Williams because...' will automatically get you blacklisted.

i dont think you guys are really getting the point so here's an example...this is a past essay question from uchicago:
The Sudanese author Tayeb Salih wrote, “Turning to left and right, I found I was halfway between north and south. I was unable to continue, unable to return.” If he is unable to choose, the character faces the threat of being frozen in place or torn between two states. Describe a halfway point in your life—a moment between your own kind of “north” and “south.” Tell us about your choice, your inability to choose, or perhaps your folly in thinking there was ever a choice to be made.
so here clearly if you make any mention of this author or this quote or even if your essay topic seems like it is really geared toward answering this question it will set off a red light that whoever is reading it might think that you just used an essay for another college....making mistakes such as writing the wrong college's name in your essay are too stupid to even be discussed but i'm talking about the content of your essay here. No, columbia will not call any other school nor can any school so freely part with the information you provided on your application....but i'm quite sure they are aware what kind of questions are on other competitive colleges' applications and will be able to spot a recycled essay.

Quirky x1000000

&& what random person would choose a random topic like your inability to choose. Thast a topic only the college willask to write about.

Tell me ses, how do you feel about wednesdays?
