I’m a rising senior in the US looking to apply to British universities like UCL,Warwick and LSE for economics. I’m a part of the IB program and have taken AP tests. Assuming I get a conditional offer, will the terms be based on my AP scores or my IB score? Also, would a 3 on Computer Science A significantly reduce my chances for these universities?
Thanks for your time!
You have to submit all of your standardized testing and they get to pick what they ask for by way of conditions. You can look both the IB and the AP requirements up on their websites. Depending on the subject and the APs you have in hand you could potentially get an unconditional offer from Warwick based on your APs. LSE wants 5 APs or 3 HL IBs, and I don’t know if they will mix’n’match- but it is the reachiest of the three.
How much the 3 matters depends on the uni and the course: if you are applying for a humanities course, not at all. If you are applying for CompSci, it’s relevant!
Thank you so much for the reply! I’m looking it economics so I guess the 3 shouldn’t matter too much. Have a nice day!
My only caution is given the higher level of math achievement/aptitude that is expected for UK economics program students (including PPE), a score like a 3 in CS A (a topic that in my view is closely correlated to math) might be a red flag to a top tier school like LSE. Will you be taking any other math APs like Calc BC or even the SAT II math 2 test? Or a physics AP?
Yes I am waiting on my BC score and have a 800 on math 2. I’m taking AP physics senior year.
