I’ve sent a few emails to addresses not related to the admissions office (departments, honors college), because UMich cares about demonstrated interest. Would they still keep track of these emails, or do I have to tell the admissions office about it?
I don’t think demonstrated interest works that way. Each school probably does it their own way, but they are the ones checking on your engagement. It’s not self-reporting.
Just make sure that whatever you are doing, register or sign up for an account where available. And if you are visiting/engaging in person, make sure you are on the attendance list or check in list.
Don’t just write emails for the sake of it. Do it for a reason. I doubt they will go into your file but who knows. Let your AO know that you have been in contact with x department or person and after getting the information you were seeking that Michigan is your number one choice… That is a soft touch. Will it help? No one really knows but if done correctly don’t think it will hurt you.
Make an ID if your able to. Research the school.
Hi, @MangoPi. I don’t think that demonstrating your interest in the university works that way. However, if you are interested in asking a program or department a question, go for it! There should definitely be a reason, but I don’t believe it has any influence on your application or decision. Best of luck!
It definitely does not hurt to send emails to the college, but I have heard UMich does not track demonstrated interest.
Their common data set does say they do factor in interest.
Michigan does track interest to a point.
