Hi! I'm thinking about applying to the university and i was wondering how difficult a double major in the school of business and musical theater would be. From what I have read here, it's definitely possible to do a double major; in fact, it's exceedingly common. How difficult/demanding is the musical theater program here? I have heard that the University of Richmond's theater program is quite good, and I was just wondering.

Your two majors are very different because the classes for them are so different. Its certainly do-able, and the theater or art one isnt that demanding so you should be ok.

Double majoring is definitely common at Richmond, but that’s because some majors have some of the same intro classes or electives to choose from. I would just like to point out that I have many friends in the theatre department and they are constantly busy working on some sort of production. The production studies classes (required) take a huge amount of time from what I have heard, but it’s a great department and the students seems to all be friends with one another for the most part. If you aren’t able to find the time to do both business and theatre and getting your field of study requirements out of the way, and theater is really what you want to do, I would recommend majoring in theatre with a concentration in arts management. As someone outside of the the theatre department world, it seems like a more useful major than just theatre and would give you the opportunity to take classes in the B-school as well. Just something to consider.

I’m with @Robnoco. I was very involved with the Dep’t of Theatre while I was there, though not a major, and it keep you incredibly busy. I do have friends who double majored in Business and Theater and a variety of other things, but you have to be prepared to work hard.
